Research Laptop vs. Handwritten notes

What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design? Does a student who types their notes on a computer do better in class than a student who handwrites his/her notes?

What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate? The grades of both students.

What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc Correlational

What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.) Survey

If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables? Laptops vs. handwriting.

Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find. Students who type their notes do better in their grades.

What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it? If a student does better in class while typing or writing, then that should be the method of taking notes.

Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How? It wasn’t too difficult. I tried to think of something all students can learn something interesting from. Many students choose to type notes because they feel they get more information down, but i’m not too sure about that.

Hello, hello class! :)

My name is Jarlyne and I am currently a junior and my major is Human Resource Management. I am happy to be taking this class. I took intro to psychology when I was attending SUNY Oneonta, but it only transferred as an elective. However, this class more interactive so I have been enjoying it more than I did before.

So, a little bit about me… I was born and raised in Brooklyn, but come from a Dominican family. I consider myself a young soul, a thinker, an artist, and a positive individual. Drawing/painting and coloring/collecting vinyl toys (ex. Kid Robot) are my hobbies. I love watching documentaries. That’s part of the reason why I really like the phrase “Knowledge is power,” because it really is.

If you genuinely love art and want to check out some inspiring artwork, some of which I have contributed (this includes poetry, videos, drawings, paintings, photography and much more), you can go to findinguniversalcreativity.tumblr.com

This is the facebook page too if you like it! http://www.facebook.com/pages/fINDING-uNIVERSAL-cREATIVITY/151095971638934  Feedback is super appreciated especially since it’s fairly new. ENJOY!!!! 🙂

"Hello Sharissa! One of the things that you said stood out to me which is meeting people of different cultures. That's one of the main reasons I transferred to Baruch. When I was upstate there was not a lot of diversity. I feel much more comfortable here because of it. P.S. I laughed at the "gym, well sometimes" haha, I'm the same way!!"

"Hi Miao! I'm also a transfer but from upstate, SUNY Oneonta. I like to cook too! I actually majored in cooking when I was there but once I came to Baruch I changed my major to Human Resource Management. But I still love food and cooking as a hobby."
