Memory

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

The process of recovering my memory I would choose to entrust and start with professional therapist that has experience in recovering memory. I consider it to be complex and delicate process that must be taken seriously and attentively. After initial phase, I would include my family and friends as people who know me the best and are present in my life the most. Their knowledge and, most certainly, being part of my memories would be the most important part of the recovery process. I think that our joint efforts with supervision of a professional would have desired positive results.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

I think I would be feeling quite overwhelmed recovering bits and pieces of my life. I think it would be overwhelming for anyone. I imagine I would feel diverse emotions: happiness, sorrow, and fear, anxiety-depending on good or bad things that happened to me during my life. However, every feeling is significant and needed for us to experience so that we have foundation and knowledge of it for shaping our future emotional states and response to situations.

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

Every our memory is part of us and helped us shape into who we are today. If I could choose to discard or edit some memories, I would not do it, because no matter whether is it a happy occasion or some unfortunate thing, it is what I am made of. I understand that some experiences can be very grave and difficult to bear and cope with, so I wouldn`t judge those who would choose different. Anyway, I am fond of every my memory as they help me recall joyous occasion when I`m sad, or remind me of a valuable lesson previously learned. So I would definitely keep all of them.

Hello!

Hello everyone! My name is Ivana Kostic, I am from Montenegro and this is my second year at Baruch College , and in amazing New York ! I came to the USA couple of years ago and first lived in St. Louis , MO which is beautiful city where I had wonderful time and made lots of good friends, but after just one visit to New York , I knew this is the city where I want to live! My major is Finances and I love everything about it! I am also very interested in related subjects like accounting, economy. Despite differing from my major, Psychology is very interesting subject and I think a lot of useful and remarkable things can be learned in this course.
I am a gourmand (food lover) and I enjoy  trying different cuisines. I especially love Asian, Italian and Mexican food. I know how to cook, too, and prepare some of my favorite dishes. And just not to gain weight :), I enjoy outdoors activities and playing sport. I like walking, running, camping. Volleyball is my favorite sport and I used to be in starting line-up in my high school team.Couple of months ago I started practicing kick box regularly and it is great! I also love listening to music, reading books, going to movies with friends…and having great time at Baruch and New York !
Have a great semester!

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? During “Mindfulness of Breathing” by focusing on the breath, he became more aware about his mind’s tendency to think about things that should or what is going to happen during the school break, when he is was supposed to clear his head and relax. In this type of mediation as breath is object of concentration, throughout breathing exercises, he slowly began to feel to a positive effect on his entire physical and mental state. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? I think that the parasympathetic nervous system is affected during mediation as being in charge of regulation of internal organs and glands, which occurs unconsciously and responsible for stimulating activities, like when person feeling relaxed or when body is resting. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? I would like to know if all four stages of meditation are applied, or maybe just the first one and whether you should breathe through your nose or mouth? Is there a difference and to what extent is important if does? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Based on what I have read, I am definitely trying this type of mediation as seem a very good remedy for anxiety, stress, bad mood, etc. and that after some time the mind becomes more calm and positive."

"Hi, Danilo. I agree with you about graffiti being way of expression of inner struggle or against oppressive authority. There are many evidences trough history of use of graffiti as tool for achieving some social or political goal or making a statement. I understand it is not art in conventional sense of the term, but it is still an expression of feelings and mean of communication. They are not usually created by professional artists, but ordinary people and I think that gives graffiti extra value because it is easier to relate to those thoughts and ideas as writing on the wall reflects everyday life."
