Meditation Reflection

I. Gil Fronsdal’s Guided Meditation: Confidence and the Breath

II.

A. During those 24 hours, I felt many different emotions. I felt sad, angry, depressed, cautious, jealous, shy, ashamed, embarrassed, frustrated, confused, confident, suspicious, anxious, bored, exhausted and hopeful. I will elaborate on these feelings if needed to.

B. I guess my anxiety level is around 6-7.

C. My physical tension I would rate a 5.

III.

A. Well, I definitely feel more calm. I guess you can say I feel a little bit more confident.

B. My anxiety level is now 0.

C. I still have physical tension on my arms for personal reasons. The rest of my body is less tense so I rate it 2-3.

IV. I chose Fronsdal’s guide because I assume it would help build up confidence. I was following his instructions as he was going on so I felt my breathing. Air going in and out, the quickness, the cold feeling going through my nostrils and into my throat, my chest expanding and compressing as well as my stomach. I felt the cold air around me and I felt confused in a way as to whether I was doing the meditation right. I could not find a correct posture and position to sit in during the first half of the meditation so I was constantly thinking about that. In the end, I chose to sit on my sofa in a upright position with my arms on my stomach and feet down touching the floor. I would definitely do this again because it did calm my mind much more than I expected even though I was confused for the first half. I believe the next time will be a much better experience.

Assignments

Just wondering, have the reflection assignments been posted yet? I really feel like doing them right now and writing like XXXXXXXX pages each but I don’t see them anywhere on Blackboard. All this hype for nothing. ):

Hello!

Hello, you must be really bored if you’re reading my post. Joking! Anyways, my name is David Qiu and I am a transfer student. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and my interests and hobbies constantly change but my main interests are to sing and doodle on my notes. I am in the Accounting major but I want to do Psychology as my minor if there is. So far, most of my classes are enjoyable except for math cause you know, math is boooooooring. I don’t really have any interesting online blogs that I own myself or a Youtube channel but I DO own a Facebook. 🙂 Anyways, I don’t know what to say so I’m gonna end this by saying I’m a funny/stupid person so if you want to know more about me, uhh, message me or stalk me on Facebook. Thanks for reading my post and hope you guys have a wonderful semester!

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. My reaction didn't really change as I was reading the post. I would also choose both positive and negative experiences as I think the same way as you, too. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would feel sadden but I will not lose hope that our friendship has been lost forever. I will try my best to bring our friendship back to where it was before, which I think won't be too hard since you liked me basically for who I was so all I have to do is be myself with you. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? As I said, I will try to bring our friendship back to the way it was. I will also talk about past memories we had together and try to relive them by doing those things again. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I will try to use photos and videos I have of us together and honestly, social websites since everyone has one that they visit (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc...) Also, as I said above, I will try to relive the experience with you and try my best to help you remember."

"What would be your hypothesis of the study’s outcome? If a student eats breakfast, it would increase their attention span. What suggestions do you have for the researcher on how to improve or adjust the proposed study? I think you should also mention the time period in which how long the breakfast's effect would last for example, breakfast would increase the attention span in the morning or up to midday or something like that. Also, you wouldn't really have a placebo in your experiment. It's either they have breakfast or they skip it. Are there any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design (or results?) There are really no drawbacks or potential harmful impacts since people DO skip breakfast quite often. What would be the NEXT STEP after this hypothetical research study were conducted and presented to the public? Can you propose a replication with a good twist? That’s often how research works and how the field is able to advance. Maybe you can think up a great Follow Up study! The next step would be studying how lunch effects a person and then dinner. Some people just skip their meals because they're not hungry or because they are on a diet but do not know they are harming themselves even more by skipping the important meals."

"Hello Professor Sitt, I was surprised when you said you were diagnosed with ADHD in college(?). I would also like to know if I have any mental illness. How do I find out about that? If possible, can you help me find out anything? Haha, I know its pretty awkward but I sometimes can't rub off a feeling I get as if I'm slow. In fact, I was actually a patient myself and actually visited a psychiatrist a few years back only to never go back again because I believed I didn't need it."
