Meditation

I chose “Guided Meditation: Confidence and the Breath” by Gil Fronsdal.

II. Before the meditation
A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

I felt very confused, guilty and depressed.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

I was at the level of 6.

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension?

My tension is my stomach. I would say a 3.

After the meditation
A. Reassess your mood on the chart.

My mood is now hopeful.

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

My anxiety level is now a 4.

C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.
My physical tension level is now a 4.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I choose guided meditation that focused on breathing so it would calm me down from the stress I’ve been going through. I felt very calm as if I didn’t have stress anymore or a care in the world. It helped me relax and my tension was going away. I felt very calm and happy. I do yoga often so I didn’t find any challenges. I would definitely try this again because it helps me deal with stress.

Hello :)

Hi everyone my name is Harleen! I live in Queens with my family. I’m a transfer student and this is my second semester at Baruch College. I’m in the Zicklin Business School and studying Accounting. I enjoy reading, shopping, traveling, eating, and basically having fun.  I enjoy fashion as well.  My favorite class at Baruch so far has been English. Psychology is not my major, but I find it very interesting learning the way we think.  I hope everyone has a great semester!

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I agree with her choice of keeping all the memories she had because all those memories teach you lessons about life and makes you a better person and grow as a person. All memories we experience good or bad help us in the future and make us a better person. 2.How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would feel sad if my best friend lost her memory. She wouldn't remember the times we had and the future we planned together but I would try my hardest to help her gain her memory back. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would play the role of her best friend and show her all the places we've been to and tell her about all the moments we shared. I would show her videos and pictures and tell her the stories behind it and also show her the things that meant the most to her. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I would use rehearsal techniques to keep reminding her the times we spent and keep repeating it so she might remember them and I would also use memory encoding to remind her about the important memories we spent."

"What would be the hypothesis of your outcome? I believe college students who also work out have a higher state of mental stability because exercising makes the brain think better and research has shown it helps us stay more focused. What suggestions do you have for the researcher on how to improve or adjust the proposed study? I think the researcher should select a population such as students in college so the results are consistent. Are there any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design (or results?) The drawbacks can be the weight of the participants or any health conditions they might have that might influence the results. What would be the NEXT STEP after this hypothetical research study were conducted and presented to the public? Can you propose a replication with a good twist? That’s often how research works and how the field is able to advance. Maybe you can think up a great Follow Up study! I think a good follow up would be adding vitamins to the mix and seeing how that would influence students performance in school."
