Link between physical exercise and memory

The question to be explored is a link between exercising and memory. Hypothesis would be that students who get enough physical activity during the day would be able to perform better on memorizing tasks. Independent variable would be amount of exercise because it would be manipulated; memory would be dependent variable. Experimental design would be suitable for this research. Different research methods could be applied to this study. Surveys could be used for measuring students’ attitude towards their own progress or absence of such. Case study might be useful for research purposes as well by monitoring a selected individual while adding exercise to his or her daily routine and measuring memorizing ability during this process. If positive correlation would be found between increased physical activity and memory, it could be recommended for the students to include some extra exercises in their daily routine in order to boost their memory. Among the possible problems of this research could be other than physical activity variables such as amount of sleep, diet changes etc. that could have significant effect on memory. If such factors change during the conducting of the experiment and in case if they are not accounted for the results of the experiment might not be accurate. Also, if the research method used would be survey, there is a possibility of biased self-reports that  also could alter the results of a study.

Say Hello :)

Hello everyone! My name is Alona. I am a transfer student and this is my first semester at Baruch. I transferred from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and yes, I wanted to be a police officer. No, it was actually a joke. I grew up in Eastern Europe, so pardon me for my grammar mistakes if any.

So far, I gave it a try in studying law, mathematics, international criminal justice, real estate, and economics. I have no idea about my major though. It might be finance of some sort. I enjoy snowboarding, rollerblading, hiking, white water rafting, a little surfing, and riding my scooter (a small one). And also I want to make movies. It is a secret for now, so don’t tell anyone.

This is one of my favourite short video pieces (it is a commercial, I know ;)):

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? Meditation helped him to relax and bring awareness to his breath. It was also important to clear his head of thoughts about everyday life and to just focus on breathing. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? Parasympathetic nervous system was affected during meditation. A person who is meditating relaxes and stops being anxious, if only for a couple of moments. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Would you do it again if not for the purposes of psychology class? Do you consider trying other forms of meditation? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Well, I do yoga and meditation is a part of yoga practice. Also, I went to weekend meditation sessions where we were exposed to different types of meditation some of which I find really effective. Therefore, I might try this kind of meditation, but just not today..."

"I would support my friend in his dedication to retrieve as many memories as possible. If he would not remember me I would feel a bit frustrated but I would be understanding of that awkward situation, taking into account that my friend must be even more shocked than me. In order to help my friend to recover his memories I would try to spend more time with him and showing him activities that we used to do together before his trauma. That might help his recovery. Also, trying to reconstruct our emotional states at those moments may be particularly helpful. I would not want to overwhelm my friend with such exercises though. maybe, instead of constantly try to go over past stuff we can build new holistic friendship. Having healthy friendship relationships might be even more helpful for my friend's recovery than just sitting there and bragging about the past."

"Pre-med-finance, connection? I know a guy who worked in finance for quite a few years and then went back to school to become a doctor... Well, maybe he will, at the time he should be retired. You might want to give this story a thought."
