Breakfast & Learning

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design?
Is it true that breakfast helps us to perform better in school
  • What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate?
Will the students who eat breakfast every morning perform better on the test than those who do not
  • What type of design would best suit your research question?
    Experimental
  • What research method would you use to conduct your experiment?
Survey to ask students about their eating habits
  • Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find.
Students who eat breakfast every morning will perform better on the test than students who do not eat.
  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?
College students, might get them to change their eating habits and perform better in school.
  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How?The most difficult part is to get people to take your survey considering the fact people do not take surveys seriously and prefer not to participate because of personal reasons or they are just lazy.

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? >According to writer he was going through physiological stress because he was unable to manage his time and felt extremely anxious due to overwhelming work in school. Also he felt physical tension in his body. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? > The sympathetic Autonomic Nervous System was affected during the meditation. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? >Since you felt like you gained more energy after meditating would you continue doing it? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? >Not right the way, I would prefer starting off something simple. First i would try to learn how to control my breath and avoiding irrelevant thoughts before i jump in into a meditation of this level."

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? Writer was going through psychological stress which affected his physiological level. With having to go through so much stress meditation might not work as fast as the person might have been expecting it to, it takes time. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? Automatic nervous system and if person has never meditated it would affect prefrontal cortex 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? After you became aware of your exhaustion and pain in my body it just went away? or what have you done in order to relieve it? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Most likely I will give it a try."

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. Spending time with your family would be a good start though i do not think that you would remember your password nor login name for a facebook. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? What i would feel would be irrelevant in contrast to a person who actually lost his memory. Instead of creating stressful situation i would try to help a person to recover his memory. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? The role i always had. Be his best friend and provide him with anything that might help to recover his memory 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? Retrieval technique"

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. Going to a police station would be a good start if you had a criminal record or any other reason. In case if you do not remember your name nor you have any identification cards the good old google will not be as helpful as you would hope. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would deal with the situation by helping the person knowing that it is not his fault. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? Provide everything i can that could help him to recover his memory. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I strongly believe that in this case retrieval technique would be very helpful to recover person's memory. retrieval technique"

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. Home would be a good start but what if you did not posses any identification card, credit cards etc on you when you were found? How would the doctor know where to start? or Police? There are different cases and its not as easy as most of them sound finding family and friends. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? It would probably shocking for me. In case if that would ever happen i would try to help a person to recover his memories through retrieval techniques and showing pictures or videos that we had taken together. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? Do everything I can to help to a close person to me to retrieve their memory 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? Retrieval techniques"

"Hi Barry, it is difficult to imagine memory loss for a person who has never experienced it in his life. You made a very important statement regarding recovering all memories because even bad memories and experience that we go through shape our personalities. You would also would want to know if anyone has done anything wrong to you in order to avoid same consequences in the future. Getting help from your family and best friend would be a good start. As you mentioned pictures or stories of your past might help you to recover your memory. As best friend i will provide you with everything that i have that could help you: videos, text messages etc. The idea itself of my best friend not being able to remember me, a person who he spent big portion of his life is scary. I would do anything in my power to help to cope with a stress and overcome the obstacle presented by the unfortunate situation."

"Hi Valentina =) What a beautiful picture you have there, it caught my eyes right away. Reminds me of my country, the nature is as beautiful as the background on your picture. Although I am also new to Baruch I have few friends who transferred here last year, and they told me joining a club or attending events would be a good start. It will help you to make up your mind and get an idea about what kind of position you could get with your degree. Good luck with your classes! I am sure you will do well =)"
