Hello!

Hello!

My name is Areum Han. I am a transfer student and this is my first semester in Baruch College, majoring in Economics. I am a Korean-American, but I was born in Dominican Republic (so I always get asked if yo hable espanol, unfortunately I don’t). Initially, I chose Baruch for accounting and hopefully work for the top four firms. But after interning at a corporate firm this summer I realized that isn’t the path I want to take. I hope to have a career where I can help people who are disadvantaged.

I love traveling. So far I’ve visited South Korea and Dominican Republic within the last three years. I hope to study abroad to the middle east, specifically Egypt or Jordan (depending on how the events turn out, of course).  I enjoy being exposed to unfamiliar cultures, food, people, and learning about them as well.

During my free time, I go out to hole in the wall type of restaurants in the city, trying out different menus and drinks. Recently I went to Long Island visiting vineyards. I definitely recommend this to people in the city. We’re mostly compact here, but over there, it was a completely different scenery, everything was wide and open. I’m also physically active, I do yoga, lift small weights, jog, bouldering, and racquetball.

This semester, I’m taking all liberal arts classes, including psychology. The lectures for psychology aren’t boring at all. Although I walk into the lecture hall sleepy, I am awake during the entire lecture. (I probably will never forget the first day when Prof. Spolasky made a very dramatic entrance with his little skit.) I’m more observant with infants and other people around me by incorporating what I learned from class. Aside for taking classes, I applied to the GSC which is the global student certificate. And I also hope to do volunteer work, like an outreach program, for a club.

I am planning to be very productive while attending Baruch College without being too overwhelmed. And I hope to learn and participate in all my classes!

"Hi Henely, I'm a PTK member too! And I was born in DR, except I lived there only for a year so I don't remember much. However, I visited DR last year and it was beautiful. Definitly worth visiting again. There are some decent clubs/committees that I recently applied too, one of them is the GSC, and the other is the art and community outreach committee."
