Meditation Reflection

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

I am currently stressed out about school. There are so much
things to finish up with so little time. I am mentally fatigue due to lack of sleep.

B.   Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

I am usually not very anxious. I would say my anxiety level is a 7.

C.   Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

My level of physical tension is 8. I’ve been doing a lot of
pushups and lunges. There is tension on my chest, arms and calves.

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your
state of mind and body.

A.   Reassess your mood on the chart.

When I was done meditating, my mind was a lot more clear
from before. I felt less stressed. My body was a lot more relaxed and a lot of tension from my body was gone.

B.   Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

My anxiety level is currently a 3.

C.   Reassess your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

My physical tension level is a 4.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you
choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I’ve decided to do the emtional reaction to pain exercise. My mind was focused on breathing and tried to not think about anything else. At first, it was hard to block thoughts from my mind, but it got easier as I got used to mediating. It was very relaxing and helped me become less stressed with my school work. During this experience, I was calm due to the quiet room which allowed me to focus. I would definitely try this again in the near future whenever I’m stressed out or
physically/mentally fatigue.

Hello guys

Hi, my name is Anthony Phung. I was born and raised in New York. I am currently living in Queens, but I was born in Chinatown. This is my first semester in Baruch College. I am currently an lower sophomore since I transferred twice. The first college I attended was St. Francis College, then I work to York College and now I am at Baruch College. This is definitely the last college I’ll be transferring to. I am trying to major in finance and investment right now. My favorite class that I have this semester is  psychology.

I love playing and watching sports (basketball is my favorite sport). I also love playing video games or just hanging out in the city with my friends or girlfriend.

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I agree with your decision to keep all your memories whether they were positive or negative. I believe everything happens for a reason and without the negative memories, the happy memories would not be as satisfying. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would definitely feel sad. All the good and bad memories we had together are all gone in his/her mind. I would pray for the best and hope one day, my longtime friend would remember me. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would tell them stories about the things we used to do for fun. Tell him/her the things they liked to do the most. Bring back the most memorable moment we shared together as friends and hope they can at least remember small parts of it. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? The technique I would use to help a person recover and reintegrate their memories is retrieval. I would bring my friend to his/her favorite place where we shared a lot of memories with, and remind them about the priceless moments we had."

"I agree that eating breakfast will help students perform better on tests than the people who does not eat breakfast. I would suggest to add up and find the average of all the grades of the students that are eating breakfast on the daily compare to the kids that are not. This would help parents and students know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I do not think there is any potential harmful impacts regarding to a student eating breakfast before school. A good twist to this experiment might be the amount of food you consume. Will eating a bowl of cereal compared to a spoon of cereal be as effective?"

"I agree that exercising helps a little to achieve a higher grade in school college due to their mental state when they study and take exams. Exercising frees your mind from any stress or problems you might have. I think the research should talk about how long the exercise should be in order for this research to be effective in terms of achieving a higher grade due to their mental state. For instance: would a 15 minute exercise be as effective as a person who is exercising for a hour? One drawback for this experiment might be the lack of energy required to study. Not everyone is in top notch shape, so some people might be really exhausted to study afterwards due to the exercise. A good twist for this experiment is for people that uses steroids, drugs or supplements. Will these types of substances help a person increase their mental state of mind or decrease it?"
