Memories Reflection Post

For this reflection, imagine that you were unexpectedly struck by a falling object, which caused you to experience retrograde amnesia. As we learned, retrograde amnesia is the loss of memories which occurred before the brain injury. In this case, imagine this accident has caused you to forget all your explicit memories from childhood up until you were struck by the falling object.

Luckily, a medication has been developed to help you recover your memories, but it’s up to you to guide the recovery process.

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

-I would begin the process of recovering my memory by visiting places I’ve been to while growing up such as schools, parks, friends houses and such locations. I would turn to my family and friends to guide me through the process to try and recover these memories for me. I would also start searching at my home to bring up any memories to my best extent.
2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

-The emotional journey that I would be going through would be very rough. I would be very confused as to why I don’t remember these memories. I would also feel like I’m trapped inside this life that I have no feelings for. If I were able to recover some of the memories though, I would start to feel a little more hopeful because it would make me believe that all these things that the people around me are telling the truth. I would be able to trust them with my life in recovering who I am.

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

-I would choose to retain all my memories because every memory that has a different impact could be the memory that might make me remember everything all over again. Even though there would be certain memories that I would not want to keep such as ones that may be persistent or ones I choose to block, every memory was a part of who I am.

I’m Saying Hello!

Hello my name is Bryan Li, currently a sophomore and my intended major is accounting. Psychology does seem to be an interesting topic/subject but it would be difficult to major as I have an older sister who has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Binghamton University and many of my family members believe it’s a useless degree. My favorite classes this semester is accounting and statistics. They seem fairly simple so far and the concepts are easy to grasp. I’m not currently in any student clubs or organizations but I do plan on being more active around campus this year and intend on joining a business fraternity such as Beta Alpha Psi. Some of my favorite interests or hobbies include playing all sorts of sports and having fun with others. Also, I enjoy occasional puzzles such as Sudoku or a new one I recently discovered called KenKen which is similiar to sudoku but with a math twist added to it. Here’s a random and simple one I found online:
KenKen
There are easier or simpler ones such as 3×3 or 5×5 and even 6×6. Basically the goal is to finish the puzzle like sudoku, having only one number repeating horizontally and vertically however there are thick lines in the puzzle highlighting each “cage”. Within each cage the numbers in the cage would have to equal to the number on the upper left using the mathematical process given next to the number.

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? I think during the meditation on a physiological level, you were trying really focus but you had all these stressors on the back of your mind inhibiting you from relaxing. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? I would say the areas of their central nervous systems that may have been affected during the meditation would be the parasympathetic nervous system kicking in to return the body back to a normal state and trying to relax the body of its toxins and pains. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Would you continue to keep meditating every time you needed to relax? Is it very time consuming to having to meditate? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I would be open to trying the same meditation exercise if I were to ever need to relax or calm down from reality. It isn't exactly an escape from problems but it is a good way to try to not oversee situations and maybe organize your thoughts a bit better."

"* What would be your hypothesis of the study’s outcome? My hypothesis of the study's outcome would be those with close to none hours and those with excessive hours, the ones on the extreme ends would have a negative impact on grades meanwhile those in the middle or in between could have no impact or a slightly positive impact. * What suggestions do you have for the researcher on how to improve or adjust the proposed study? As for the survey, I would suggest taking random sample surveys of different classes with the same subjects to try and eliminate a third element not being surveyed such as difficulty of class etc. * Are there any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design (or results?) Although surveys could skew the results, there is no other way really and it would remain anonymous, there wouldn't be much potential harmful impacts assuming that everyone is being honest of their grades. * What would be the NEXT STEP after this hypothetical research study were conducted and presented to the public? Can you propose a replication with a good twist? That’s often how research works and how the field is able to advance. Maybe you can think up a great Follow Up study! A good replication or twist in the next step could be to go even further into maybe what other people would spend their time doing if they're not playing games and see how that would have an impact on their grades as well."
