My Meditation Experience!!

I-Choosing a Meditation

The meditation experience was done at a yoga class in NYSC

II A) First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.                                                      Before beginning my meditation I was feeling excited and a little nervous because I have never done anything like this before.

B) Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.                                                 My overall level of anxiety was about a 3 from 1-10 scale, I think i t was a normal level because I had a long day at school

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

There was tension in different parts of my body I noticed, tension occurred in my arms, legs and ankles. All this tension was due to the football game I played the day before. My tension overall was probably about  a 7.

III) After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.

A) Reassess your mood on the chart.                                                                                 After the mediation I felt happy, relaxed, confident and ready to take on the world as a new refreshed person

B) Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.                                                                          My Anxiety level was I think  was very close to a 0 because my mind felt relaxed and at eased

C)Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.                                          My tension level non existent as I breath and relaxed throughout this process, I would rate my tension to a 1.

IV) Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I chose to meditate at my gym as they offered a Yoga class. When I first got to the gym I was very lethargic, and bruised up from playing football and basketball the day before. The most challenging part was during the beginning because I felt all my bruises and many different thoughts kept coming into my mind and stopped me from focusing. As the class proceeded it became much easier and more relaxing. I never took yoga or anything like this before, I would go to the gym and workout and leave but, I’m going to start going to the Yoga classes at least once every 2 weeks because it refreshing and makes me feel like a new person. This was very healthy for body and mind; I recommend it to everyone.

Hola CLASS!!!!

Hello my name is Bryan Paredes, I was born in Brooklyn hospital from Ecuadorian parents. This is my first semester at Baruch and I have enjoyed it so far even though I have lost some credits due to my transfer. I am not currently in any clubs, but attended today’s club fair and I was interested in joining the Ecuadorian, Hispanic, and a business club.  My favorite sport is basketball, I have been playing it for about eight years. I was on my high school’s basketball team and currently playing in a tournament. I watch the NBA all season long, my favorite player is Lebron James. He’s the best player in the planet and nobody can stop him including Kobe Bryant.  Psychology is very interesting, but im sticking to my intended major of Finance. My favorite class so far is Business law.

Every once a while it’s good to get away from our lovely hectic city and relax. The location I go to relax and enjoy myself is Florida. I couldn’t find a better photo, but this is my house in Miramar,Florida. My uncle is in this picture as well. My house is about twenty minutes away from Miami. Beside Miami being the home of my favorite NBA team, it’s a wonderful and adventurous city. I really enjoy every moment I spend in Florida especially when it’s winter in NYC! I cherish every moment I spend with some of the family I have over there. I haven’t been there in about a year, but I am planning to go soon.

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I think its a good idea to start playing the piano at first to start your brain working and get it to the rhythm of learning. I would prefer to initially start looking at old pictures around my house to see if any pictures triggers something in my brian that will help me remember something or I will talk to my family and let them talk to me about all the good time and bad times and discard the bad times we had and only remember the fun times that has occurred 2.How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would go and spend as much time as i can with my longtime friend and tried to help them remember our good time. I would also try to create new memories so my friend can remember 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would bring old photos and old items that will bring up memories that we have created. For example, my best-friend and I won a basketball championship in my school and I would bring the trophy to show him it and tell him our journey to the championship. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? On what I have learned in class i will use memory encoding to help my friend recover by repeating and talk about our friendship in detail and all we have been through."

"This experiment is very compelling and sounds like a good idea. I would like to see the outcome of this experiment but, I am sure that independent and dependent variables don't have a direct relationship therefore, not having a correlation. In the end, there might be a relationship but there are other variables you have to take into consideration such as other classes taken, study time, and work."

"Hey Kiara, I also understand and feel your pain of losing so many credits. This is also my first semester in Baruch and its been fun and interesting. I don't regret transferring to this school because I know it will pay off in the long run. I hope meeting you soon my fellow transfer classmate!"
