Meditation at a Yoga class

A) First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

–When I first woke up early at 6 a.m., I was exhausted, sleepy, and with no energy at all. Throughout the day, my mood elevated between being happy, to frustrated, and then to being bored. Towards the end of the night, I went right back to where I had started, exhausted.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

–To assess my overall anxiety, I would have to say its 4. Even though, I had a long day, the level of anxiety was at a decent level.

C) Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

–The level of physical tension is mostly on my shoulders, back and my calves. Level of tension would have to be a 6.

III) After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.

A. Reassess your mood on the chart.

–(After yoga class, I felt like a whole new person, because I was happy, hopeful, confident, and ecstatic)

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

–(Level of anxiety dropped to 1, because my mind was free)
C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

–(Level of tension also dropped to 2, especially the tension from my calves)

IV) Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

–I chose to meditate at a yoga class that was offered at my gym. When I first got there, I had a lot on my mind, and a lot of tension in my body. Trying to concentrate on the meditation was quiet difficult, because I was so restless, I just couldn’t get all the things that happened during the day out of my mind. So I thought, whats best then couple of deep breaths, and slowly trying to release all that was going on in my mind. I would definitely take yoga class again in the future,  because its a great experience. I did take yoga for 4 years in high school, and I think that, I felt like a whole new person, after every session, both my mind and my body were at a perfect state, no tension or anxiety at all.

Hello Everyone.

My name is Drenushe, and I’m from Kosovo. And if you might ask yourself where is that, its a small country in Europe. I lived there till I was 11, then my parents decided to move to NY, which in my opinion, it was the worst decision they ever made, but at the end, didn’t turn out so bad.

I am a transferred student, transferred from College of Staten Island. This is my first semester at Baruch College and so far its treating me well. I am majoring in Accounting, however, leaning more towards Taxation.

Hope you enjoyed my short story. =)

"1. At first, I was a bit in shock that the author wanted to retrieve all memories, positive or negative, but then when you think about it, it all makes sense. Those past things that have happened to us, have shaped us into who we are today. And for the person to really understand who they are, they should know every past detail of their life, either the moment you broke into tears, or laughing so hard that you fell off your couch. 2. I would be devastated, especially that this person is a longtime friend. Knowing that they don’t remember who you are, feels like the strong friendship bond has been broken, especially that you are a complete stranger to them. However, I would try all the possible techniques there are to help my friend, retrieve their memory so things can go back to what they used to be like. 3. Like the best friend I am, I will help them by trying to bring back memories of what our friendship used to be like. First, I would show them the pictures of memories, show them the places we visited, try doing activities that were our favorites, basically tracing back memories to those of our childhood. 4. In order to help this person recover or reintegrate their memories, I would try to help them by trying to relive the memories of the past. or for example, if they were to play a sport or an instrument, I would help them practice, because practice in time will help them learn, and before they know it, they will play just like they used to."

"I find this very interesting, because I'm not a U.S. born and I'm intrigued to find out the results of this. But, I do agree with the previous person who has commented, about the term immigrant students, that may be too broad, since there are different kind of things that impact students, for example, their background. My hypothesis would be to take a specific group of immigrants then see what the outcomes would be. As far as the results, I do believe that immigrant students would have a higher GPA, because, they are more determined of the opportunities that are given to them in the U.S., so they really do work hard to achieve that."

"Hello Sheron, I transferred from CSI as well, and I know exactly what you mean in terms of the crowdedness. I hope you enjoy your experiences at Baruch."

"Hi Arta, I'm from Kosovo(Prishtina) too. I know how it felt when you first moved here, and how everything changes from then and on. And it feels great to be in this "Land of Freedom", a lot of opportunities, I should say. Enjoy the rest of your college experience. =)"
