Regaining the memory I lost…

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to,where would you search, and how would you proceed?

I would being to recover my memory by going to all the places I enjoyed going to. I would visit my school, favorite parks, and favorite restaurants. I would go anywhere that would have some percent of possibility of sparking some form of memory. I would turn to my family because they know me the best; they will know where to take me, what to say to me, and what to show me to gain my memory back as fast as possible.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

I think it would be a very emotional journey. I would be experiencing all the memories all over again and at a much higher intensity. I would realize how precious each of those memories actually are. The emotional journey would be hard to explain to anyone who has not experienced it. The fact that the path one must take to regain every memory since birth is very difficult makes me quite emotional. I think it would be definitely be worth it to have all my wonderful memories back and be able to remember. The journey will help me realize that memories are truly amazing things.

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

I would choose all the happy, exciting, and positive memories, definitely. However, I would also choose a couple of painful and angry memories to show that I did go through a bit of difficult time, but I was able to overcome it all. It would be nice to only think about good things, but I think I wouldn’t be able to contain any of the negative emotions if they overcame me. I think because I have painful, angry, and negative memories, I am able to control those specific emotions and know when to show them and when to not show them. The happy memories are a definite choice because who wouldn’t want remember every single happy moment they had? Happy memories make you happy when the memories are being made and when they are remembered. They are just amazing memories.

Hello fellow Psychology 1001 students!

Hi everyone! It might already be obvious, but my name is Esther. I am a freshman; therefore, this is my first semester here at Baruch. I was born in New York. Psychology isn’t my intended major, but I find it really interesting. There are many things I didn’t know about certain behaviors and other things that became clear to me during each Psychology class. I have to say Psychology is one of my favorite classes. It is very interesting and the professors make the less a bit more exciting than my others. Though this post is short, I hope everyone has a wonderful year.

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? I think Navjot was experiencing relaxing in the mind and the body. During the meditiation Navjot said her body seemed to relax and she was able to block out any distractions in her mind by focusing on one thing. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? In the central peripheral nervous system, the brain and spinal cord was being relaxed. By not focusing on the factors that stressed Navjot out, the brain was able to focus on calm, relaxing thoughts. The parasympathetic system was in effect. The parasympathetic nervous system calmed any form of stress in the body. The chest felt less burdened and Navjot was able to most likely breath a little easier. Any form of anxiety was calmed down by the parasympathetic system. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Did you feel your body getting lighter? How long did it take for you to become relaxed and for your anxiety to settle down? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Yes. It seems like it worked in lowering any form of stress in the body and made the body feel light and relaxed."

"I agree with your hypothesis; I do think people who use laptops are more likely to get a lower grade than those who do not use it. I think an experimental research would be fit for this experiment. I think it would help if it was a double-blind experiment. Therefore, the teachers, as well as the students, will continue to do what they do in each class, especially the ones which will be used to collect data. I don't think there would be any particular drawbacks. I think the only harmful thing it will do is make certain students get low grades. The positive outcome of course would be that the students will learn their lesson and not bring in their laptops, resulting in higher grades. I think the experiment can be repeated, but a different subject area than before. It can take place in a class where computers MUST be needed. Therefore, the results can be compared to that of this experiment where a laptop is causing the grade to drop. It would be interesting to see that even in a class where a laptop seems mandatory, a student without a laptop ends up with a higher grade than the student with the laptop. This is a really interesting experiment topic."

"Hello there! I'm Esther. I think it is nice that you enjoy visiting your home country whenever you can. Is there anything particular that you love about Peru or the U.S. that is specific to each country? I think it is really cool that you can knit and crochet and that you taught it to yourself. I find it difficult to knit, even the simplest stitches. I really like the painting that you added. I never really understood cubism, but I think art that is cubism is unique and something to be appreciated. It was nice reading your post. I hope you have a wonderful year."
