Hello! :)
Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth Olaya, but everyone calls me Eli for short. This is my third semester here at Baruch. I transferred from Polytechnic Institute of NYU last fall and am currently majoring in International Business. Thus far my college experience has been quite a roller coaster ride, but I have found Baruch to be quite welcoming. I’m originally from Peru and have been living in the U.S for about 17 years already. I’ve spent most of my childhood here in the U.S, yet, I love to travel back home whenever I get the opportunity.
I like soccer and tennis and hope to someday actually go to a U.S open game! Being that I have lived in Queens for 17 years and never attended a U.S open game really upsets me, but I’ll eventually get to it. I like to watch documentaries and Discovery I.D, I just really like forensic shows. In my free time I like to listen to pretty much any type of music although I grew up listening to mostly songs from the 80’s (thanks to my dad!). I’m a very crafty and hands on person. Before college I attended Fashion Industries High School. Those were some great years in which I learned a lot about fashion design and garment construction; during senior year we even threw our own fashion show for the public and the industry (how I changed my mind to study business- I don’t know!) I like to make amirugumi dolls, crochet, knit, plastic canvas, and cross stitch and am self taught in all those. I am currently trying to find the time to learn some wood working but can’t seem to, at least not yet, but I eventually will. After three semesters at Baruch I have yet to join any clubs but I am really eager to do so. So, if anyone has any suggestions, let me know! I really like this psychology class, it is very interesting and I just wish I had more time to enjoy it. Thus far some of my favorite classes have been HIS 1001 and ART 1012.
One of my favorite paintings is Marcel Duchamp’s “Nude Descending a Staircase (No.2)” from 1912. I love cubism and art that really makes one wonder and think, such as this painting which has the viewer trying to decipher what is on the canvas. I find this to be a beautiful piece of art because there is much more to it than what meets our eyes.
