Re-building the Building Blocks…

Wow what an interesting prompt. Knowing someone like me, this would probably be extremely painful. Meeting so many interesting people on debate competitions, vacations, school and even family and friends. Where do I begin?

1. I would begin the process of recovering by turning to my parents and brothers, to see the type of life I lived. I would request to see pictures, Facebook posts, awards, and everything to do with my life. I would also take my computer to Apple to unlock it so I could see the writing that I’ve done, and things I’ve read. I would want to know peoples outward feelings towards me as the first step.

2. The emotional journey I could imagine would be ridiculous. I mean supposing I had lost my memory, I would not realize that the family that is telling me about my life is the family I grew up with. I can imagine many tears at people telling me things that I should remember, such as the trip to Disney or the many car rides to Maryland. But I could also imagine much laughter at the mischievous things I had supposedly done.

3. Picking and choosing memories to me would seem wrong. I would want the same memories, so that when I actually got my memory back everything would be in place, and there would be no loose ends. All the pain, and suffering but also the laughs and triumphs have made me me. How could I not be a different person without having each and every experience. It would feel weird. I suppose if I was forced to I would take out the time I tripped and made my 6th grade team lose Field day. But then again my friends still bring it up to this day, so I would be missing a big part of me.

Hello Everyone!!!

Hi everybody, my name is Funlola Otukoya. I am really excited to be at Baruch College for this semester. I was born in Brooklyn, NY and I moved to Long Island when I was 4 years old. I enjoy reading, writing and doing volunteer work. My intended major is Economics and I hope to focus on Public Policy. When I was in 11th grade I started a non-profit to promote education in minority communities. One of our new undertakings is to promote financial literacy so people especially teenagers can make informed decisions. For right now I am loving this class. I took it in high school, so it brings back memories!!! For right now I joined the Finance and Economics Society and I am focusing on that. Hope to speak to you all in the upcoming semester.

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? I feel when that when she was meditating she was her tension was decreasing. At first she wanted to think about everything but then her thinking became much more focused. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? The parts of the peripheral and central nervous systems that could've been affected was the the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems which controls the fight or flight response. The meditation caused her to relax and the peripheral controlled this. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Do you wish you had tried other relaxation techniques? How was your breathing rate affected? Did unnecessary thoughts get in the way? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Yes I would. At this point any relaxation technique should be used. As college students we are constantly stressed and if we rely to much on one technique it may not continue to work."
