Who Am I?

Well, first of all, I will turn to the paramedics to check me if I am ok. Probably they will find out immediately that I have retrograde amnesia, because I won’t be able to give an answer to a simple question like where do you live or what my parents’ names and phone numbers are.  I’m sure that they will recommend that I should see a psychologist and that I will have to make an appointment with a MRI scan to see what’s going on in my head.  Finding out what my name is and where do I live will be the easiest part. After all, it is all written on my driver’s license which I carry everywhere.  I will probably ask the doctors to help me get my memory back and is there a pill, a drink or some voodoo ritual that can do the trick. Also I will ask them to help me get home and to send someone with me so that they will be able to explain to my parents what have happened. After I get home and see my parents I will ask them  to tell me who am I and to show me some pictures or documents that can help me remember my past.  I figure that no one else can tell me who I am and what I did in the past better than my parents.

I don’t even want to think of what my emotions will be in this situation. I will be so confused. I’m pretty sure that I will be wandering why am I able to speak another language more fluently than the language that everyone speaks around me and what kind of languages are they.   I will probably be scared and believe everything that people tell me about who I am.  I don’t think that I will turn around if someone shouts my name because I won’t be able to catch that they are referring to me, so the cocktail party effect will not work for my situation. I really don’t know what else I can feel. I think I will be going through what I have gone, in my first childhood years, when I was learning about the world around me.  It’s horrifying not to know who you are and who you can trust.

If I have the choice of choosing which memories I want to recover and which ones I want to repress, I don’t think I will want to repress any of them. Memories are my personal experiences. I learn through them and if I don’t know what my bad side looks like, how can I then recognize what is good in me. Good and Bad memories form our decision making process in the future. Of course I want to remember all of my happy and fun memories, but by remembering my bad memories I will be able to make a difference. Hopefully I will try to change and to apologies to everyone I have hurt in the past. I will try to do what’s right and what I should have done. That’s why I think that all memories should be kept. They define us, they help us, they save us. Who knows, maybe, losing my memories can be interpreted as a new beginning and gaining my memories back as a chance to fix my past so that I will have a better future.

Здравейте :) (Hello )

Hi everyone 🙂 My name is Georgi Ivanov and I’m from Bulgaria. Currently, I’m a softomore student. Being born and raised in a European country and now, living in the US, gives me the opportunity to match and compare the two worlds.

I love traveling. I’ve been to most Eastern European Countries and Canada. I used to be in a European program for learning other languages, so I had the opportunity to live in Poland for a month. I also love sports and competitions. I was the captain of my high school “young firefighter”team and we were ranked 3rd place in the national Young Firefighter Competition. I love soccer. My favourite teams are Levski (Bulgaria), Liverpool (England) and Borussia Dortmund (Germany). Other sports that I like and sometimes play are: Table tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, and playing cards. My favourite card game is the french Belot. It needs  a lot of good memory and intuition in order to be good at it.

As any other young person, I  like going out with friends, meeting new people, have fun and etc. One of my favourite quotes is: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.” (unknown writer)

If you want to know more about me you can always send me an e-mail or find me on facebook.

"I think that the meditation didn’t work because you doomed it from the beginning. I don’t think the problem was that you were tired. Mediation can help you get more relaxed. I think the problem came from the fact that you kept your mind busy thinking that you have a deadline to pursue. That’s not meditation. The main aspect of focusing on your breath is that you will make your mind stop thinking about the deadline. That’s not how you meditate. If you had let go of those thoughts and kept meditating, then maybe, you would have felt the results. By being “awake” or in other words kept thinking about the deadline you kept your peripheral and central nervous systems running on high speeds. The presence of those thoughts during the whole mediation period was the key element which made your little experiment a failure. Let me ask you this. Do you think that if you did the meditation experiment earlier, when the pressure of the deadline was absent, you might have had a better experience? Also, now, that the assignment is over, will you give meditation another chance? Do you think that without the presence of a deadline, you may actually follow the instructions more carefully and to put more effort in it? I actually do meditate once in a couple of months. Well I don’t think that if falls under the meditation category exactly, but it helps me a lot. What I do is that every time I’m so stressed out that I have nowhere to express my frustration or anger I take a deep breath and tell myself that not everything is so bad. I tell myself that I am lucky that I am healthy. I am lucky that all of my family and friends are healthy too and that everything else is just a moment in time. It will pass away. But most importantly, everything can be fixed. It’s never too late to do anything wright. That’s it. You may thing its stupid or its lame but, hey, it works for me. Do I want to try a more deep meditation? I think so. Yeah. If I have time for it or if I remember about it than, sure, why not."

"It’s an interesting idea. Definitely, some people acquire skills from games and use them in taking exams. Especially when nowadays there are gaming simulators for almost all aspects of life. From dating to war. It will be interesting to see the results from the surveys but I’m not really sure if they are going to be accurate enough. For example, as I was reading your proposal I didn’t find any paragraph or a line in which you state on what kind of games you are focusing on. Are you focusing on a small range of games like first person shooter or on all of them because there are a lot of genres? If you choose all you have to consider the fact that some games are simply stupid, with lack of any emotional or skill development. For example the game of Diamonds is made for people to loose time and that’s it. You cannot develop any helpful strategies in order to get a higher grade on an exam. Also you have to take under consideration the different types of exams the students are going to take and their subjects as well. For some test one type of game genre can be beneficial, other may have the opposite effect. I don’t think that there is any possible danger in the experiment except the fact that some of the students will probably get a bad grade and blame it on the survey and on the games but other than that I don’t think that there will be any physical danger to the students. After you conduct the experiment I suggest to you to do a couple of them but each with different genre of games. Mostly I think you should choose genres that ask for more brain activity. For example genres like strategies (Chess, Red Alert, Broodwar and etc.) or scrabble or history games (conquistador)."

"Здрасти (Hi) Anthony, I thought that I was the only Bulgarian in the class. I too love to travel and I go to Bulgaria every summer break. I'm going to be a finance major, but I too share the same feeling about philosophy. Which city in Bulgaria you've lived in? I used to live in Montana, Bulgaria. :)"
