Commuting Vs Dorming to college?

What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design?   Is dorming more effective and convenient to college students compared to commuting?

What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate?                              I’m looking forward to know which one is more convenient and if either commuting or dorming have any effect in college student performance in class concerning to grades.

What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc)                                                                                                                                                 This experiment is designed to be a correlational study because I am measuring two variables and the relation to one another. This is designed to show causation.

What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.)    Survey should be the best way to do this experiment. Actually, I have created a survey with some questions where students will show their situation and I would see the cause and effect from it. In two weeks I will post some graph that will show the result of dorming or commuting and its effect on student performance in class and their grades.

 http://www.encuestafacil.com/RespWeb/Qn.aspx?EID=1082301

If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables?            The dependent variables are the performance in class and grades. The independent variable are the quality of life a student get and if living on dorms.

Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find.      The hypothesis is that students who dorm have better chance of getting higher grades and perform better in college. I believe that dorming allow students to active learning processes. I believe that the hours spent in commuting would be better invested in studying or reviewing an hour before class starts.

What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?      The implication of this study is that prospect college student would have an idea about what could be more beneficial for them.

Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How?    I will answer this question after I see the result of my survey.

"1-After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? There are too much things going on. First, she was really stressed out and physiological in pain. She didn’t do the meditation as a way to get relaxed but just to get over the assignment. As a result she ended the exercise prematuretly and was not able to explore every step of the meditation. 2-Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? The pre-frontal lobe was affected. Due to the pression she was working on she couldn’t concentrate and free her mind. 3-What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Would you be able to do the same exercise over the weekend so that you experience fully the magic effect of meditation? 4- Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I guess the exercise meditation itself is good although she didn’t make the best use of it. I will try it."

"1-After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? Physiological the meditation definitely helped Navjot to get relaxed and decrease anxiety as well as decrease physical pain. 2-Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? The amygdala was definetly involved in this process because Navjot could decrease anxiety. The Pre-frontal lobe was part of this relaxation process because Navjot was able to block thought so his mind was free and focused. 3-What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? I think blocking your thoughts is the harder thing in meditation. Was it hard for you? How could you block them? 4- Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I would definitely try it. I need to get relaxed specially in this part of the semester."

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. It is so nice what you point out about the mistakes if they hurt somebody. I see that you care a lot about other like me. You are very family oriented and that is something I admire of you. There are tones of great memories that we share with family and friend and I bet it will be even a good experience to try to recover your memory with all of them together like a family reunion. Although, at first you might not feel comfortable good memories usually makes you laugh. I think that you’ll be amazing by all the good things your family will say about you. Oh the thing about the diary well I bet you won’t even remember you did that so I will help you with that. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I’ll definitely feel sad at first by knowing that my best friend had lost of the great moment we have lived together. However, I’ll absolutely understand the situation. It’ll be awkward for me when you choose to go to your girlfriend first than your best friend (me).  3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would play a role of a significant person that has shared meaningful moments with her. I would try to recreate an environment by using pictures and going the specific place where that event happened. I would be willing to read the diary to you so that you have an idea about what you wrote. I would tell you all the things that happened on that day so you can try to remember if I was there with you. I’ve always thought that pictures are images of great frozen memory moments –they’ll be very helpful 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? Associative networks technique will definitely help me to connect events or places with images and objects so that you can remember at least the most remarkable moment. Rehearsal is another technique I’ll use because is some way what I tell you over and over, adding details will stick on your mind and eventually you’ll be able to connect the dots. You’ll finally remember some situation. Priming will def. work because you can be at the places where certain events took place."

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I understand that some people would not like to remember those frustrating moments that have lived. I believe that some people who even healthy wish they forget and not being able to remember a specific bad event they had like sexual harassments. In this situation that my friend have suffer from retroage amnesia I don’t think these frustrating event would make her happy so if you decide not to remember those bad moments. We’ll definitely work so that you remember the great ones ;). 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? "1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I see her point very well about not discarding any event that has happened to her. I also believe that any event in our lives is unique and with them always positive thought will emerge even from the mistakable events. We have the ability to learn from them and grow to be better individuals. It seems that she enjoys every second of her life and that fact that she won’t change anything means to me that she is pleased with her life. 2.
