Meditation

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

I was feeling anxious, and exhausted.  I worked for 12 hours yesterday, studied until 2am, slept for 5hours, and just finished one exam in my morning class. I really wanted to go home, and took a deep rest, but I had two more long classes left.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

I could say my overall level of anxiety was 7.

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

I felt pain on my both shoulders just like somebody was sitting above! My overall tension would 8.

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.

A. Reassess your mood on the chart.

I felt hopeful, and confident among the feelings on the chart.

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

My level of anxiety became around  3.

C. Reasses your level of physical tension  and rate it from 1 to 10.

I did not feel the pain of my shoulders as much as I felt before. The rate changed to 3.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what
was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations
did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or
frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try
this again in the future? Why or why not?

I followed “ Guided Meditation : Confidence and the Breath” by Gil Fronsdal.  At first, I could not stop thinking of many things I had to do. I doubted “How is this going to help me get rid of  stress for a short time? ” However, I tried to believe the effect on meditation, and followed the instruction correctly. ” Why do people do meditation on the ground of park even though it is so cold outside?” Soon, I felt relaxed, and hopeful. Actually I was in the library, but it seemed that I was at my quiet room. I felt like there were only me and his voice. My pain on both shoulders disappeared at that moment. After finishing it, I felt I was awake from a sleep.    I think now meditation could help my high tension life. I will try to do it in the near future definitely!

Say Hello!

How are you guys~? My name is Hyeeun Park. I’m from Busan, South Korea. It’s good to take this course with you. I’m a transfer student from Northern Virginia, and this is my first semester in Baruch. I have lived in Virginia for 6 years and I came to New York a month ago. I think New York life is difficult so far, but I’m getting used to it. I grew up in Busan which is the second capital in Korea and beautiful city. I wish I could go to my hometown and see my family soon. When it is my free time, I usually do my lundry, study for the classes and prepare food for the week; I like cooking. These days, I’m interested in listening to classical musics. Whenever I listen to classics, it calms my nervous. I have never studied Psychology, however the more I study, the more it is interesting. I’m enjoying PSY class and music class in this semester. I didn’t join any organizations in Baruch, but I will find one later. Let’s study hard for the class!

"I would feel sorry for this friend although he didn't remember me. If we were the best friend, how I could hate my friend because of his memory loss. I would understand him and willing to help him recovering his memories. That is what friends are. For recovering his memories, I would play the important role. He might have Tip of the Tongue phenomena when he stuck in the moment to recover his memory. It would be the very crucial moment to step forward to recover his memory. My role is to answer him precisely when he asks me, so he would remember his memories. Moreover, I would talk him over and over about things he had and would take him to the places he has been before. It would be a good way to trace the retrieval technique with verbal and visual memories. If the memories are stored, but not recalled at all, that memories would be decayed and forgotten."

"Having breakfast would have significant effects on both performance and one's health. My hypothesis of this research is that the students who eat breakfast will do better performance in school than those who don't. There is my suggestion for the research to be more accurate and effective. I think the amount of breakfast should be different. For example, there are three control groups to have breakfast and measure the amount of breakast they have. We could get the information that how much breakfast is the most effective on performance. There would be also some drawback impacts or misleading results. Having breakfast means everything. I mean fastfood, fruits or nutrition bar could be breakfast. It should be clear that which kinds of breakfast would perform better on students."
