Meditation thoughts

I. Choosing the mediation
I chose “Guided Meditation: Confidence and the Breath” by Gil Fronsdal.
II. Before the meditation
A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.
I was feeling happy, bored, anxious, and exhausted.
B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.
My overall level of anxiety would be around a 5.
C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.
My tension is around the stomach. My overall tension would be a 6.
III. After the meditation
A. Reassess your mood on the chart.
My mood is now confident, hopeful, and bored.
B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.
My anxiety level is now a 3.
C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.
My physical tension level is now a 5.
IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?
I choose guided meditation that focused on breathing and meant to raise your confidence level. Many thoughts came in that I became aware of. I felt kind of drowsy, but I also felt more calm. I felt some of the tension leaving my body and my anxiety level decreasing. Some frustrating aspects was that I was trying not to succumb to the drowsiness and fall asleep, while trying to concentrate solely on my breathing. It was hard to think about my breathing for a long period of time. I would try this in the future, but not focusing on my breathing only. I tried meditation before and it always calmed me down, and it helps a lot, so it’s definitely a useful thing to do.

Hi :D

My name is Kelly Wei, and I am Chinese; my parents are from China. I’m a freshman at Baruch. This is my first semester here. I was born in Manhattan. Some of my interests and hobbies are reading, hanging out with friends, going on the computer, watching movies and drawing. Psychology is not my intended major. So far my favorite classes have been psychology and music history. At the moment I haven’t joined any clubs but I am planning to soon.

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I definitely agree with you, especially the last part where you said you would want to recover all your memories. Even though everyone has bad memories they don't want to remember, each memory contains a useful lesson so that you can learn from it. And of course, each memory makes up a person. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would feel very hurt, but I would be determined to help them get their memories back no matter how much effort and time it took. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would be a friend. I would re-introduce myself to them, and tell them that I was their long time friend. I would show my friend pictures, tell him/her places or things that we've done, and try to tell them lots of memories and stories in the past. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? First I would encode stories and images (photos) into their head, and keep reminding them about it so that it would consolidate in the mind. I would try out things like going to our favorite hangout spot again and again so maybe my friend would retrieve info from their mind, and try to remember it."
