Alcoholic Beverages.

I went to bar with some friends the other and they were telling me stories of being under the influence and how it influenced their test taking. Also I was reminded of Professor Sitt’s story about his friend who studied whilst under the influence.

I would like to see how people the same age who have never gotten drunk before do on the SAT’s while drunk compared to when they are sober. I think the results might be interesting.

This would be an experimental research project where we have two combined groups of people randomly selected. For the first group we have those that will take this exam both times while sober BOTH times. The other group of people would then take the test once while sober and then another time while under the influence. The main challenge here is how to get the test group the alcoholic beverages without confusing the other people. As was showcased by our professor, some people tend to act drunk even when they are not. That is something that I haven’t really quite figured out yet. For this kind of experiment, how it would be conducted depends on the way in which the alcohol would be given to the group of students participating. I would say naturalistic observation if there is some way to add chemicals to alcohol to make it taste like water. In which case I would have the study in two different parts. One where they take the SAT the first day sober. However, before the test we have two different colored cups, both containing water that they drink not knowing what they are supposed to be drinking (blind study). One the next day one of those cups would have the alcohol in it, if there is a way to make alcohol taste like water. The others will get a placebo. My dependent variable would be the SAT test. Independent variable would be cups with alcohol in them.

I think I may find out different things depending on the kind of alcohol used. Mostly, I’ll probably see that the kids with alcohol doing worse on the SAT. The people that would gain from a study like this are people who drink all the time who are in posiitons to take exams. Form this they can deduce whether it would be smart to possibly take an exam while under the influence.

Coming up this was really really really really hard. I couldn’t think of anything I was particular interested in to use for this reflection. I don’t think I’ll be becoming a psychology scientist any time soon. This was much harder than I expected.

I am Lord Voldemort. Hello and Welcome my Death Eaters.

I would like to welcome everyone into my inner (not so inner) circle of evil. My name is Nkrumah Garner (Runerag on facebook for those who need help on homework or whatever they desire). I am a upper freshman here at Baruch College. I am a laid back, lazy, hard working, supposedly smart person. I was born in Los Angeles, California, but I moved to New York around age 8. I previously attended Brooklyn Technical High School. I play musical instruments: Viola (main instrument), Piano, Guitar, and really whatever I can get my hands on. I also play sports: basketball, football, fencing, and really whatever else I happen to just end up trying. Some of my other hobbies include computer gaming (rarely), tumblring (always), reading novels (always), and of course trying to get my hands on that pesky Chosen One. Currently I find the series “A Song of Ice and Fire” and “Meditations, Objections, and Replies” by Rene Descartes. Computer Information Systems is most likely going to end up being my major, but as with all things, that is subject to change. My favorite class this semester would have to be Writing II. My professor, Winslow, is very creative and the subject matter is fun. I would recommend him. I like helping people when I am not preoccupied so if anyone ever needs anything just ask.

Here are some music videos that I find interesting.

This first one is a version of the piece and song Apres Un Reve (After a Dream). In this particular version, this musician is using an ocarina to play the piece which I found extrodinary:

Next up we have the original piece played on a cello played by Mark Kosower I love this version:

Lastly, I will give you the viola/piano duet of this piece to listen to:

Now then here is one of my all time favorite pieces. Most of you probably won’t watch any of these, but if you do this is the one to view. Amazing. Simply Amazing. Adagio for Strings:

And concluding this post here is a wonderful song that almost everyone knows:

That concludes my “Hello Post”. I hope I get to meet everyone. Cheers.

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? It was hard for Jennifer to focus on the meditation experiment, at first, because she was worrying about her assignments. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? I would actually say that during meditation your whole body is affected. I say this from personal experience as well as from reading this. Just concentrating on your breathing relives the body of tension. Breathing is natural so we are in a completely natural state, not focusing on things that may or may not be plaguing our lives. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? I wonder how you postured yourself during the meditation process? Sit up straight, legs crossed "indian style", etc? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I am extremely open to meditation. My dad had my five brothers and sisters do it every single day. (We didn't know what we were doing at the time). It felt great!"

""Everyday i woke up to feel devastating"-typo :) Imagine you are a longtime friend of the person who wrote one of the reflection pieces, and consider these issues for your own comment. 1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I think this author is devastated, but at the same time optimistic that through his family, photos, and friend she can remember who he is. However, I think cutting out the bad memories is a mistake. The good and bad are what make the person. If you cut out all of your bad memories you won't know what to do when something bad happens to you that you can't forget in the future. In essence, that is setting yourself up for failure. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I wouldn't be mad. I would feel a bit sad, until I realized that he was having memory problems, and at that point I would do my best to help him out in any way I could. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would talk. Talk about everything we've shared. Then I would take him to familiar places where we have shared many memories together. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I would use the process of encoding. Visual images are moire recognizable. Just the other day, I saw a picture of big building and remembered, quite suddenly and quite vividly, the time my mother took my brother and I to this stadium when we lived in California. I remembered being amazed, even though I didn't remember exactly why we were at that place."
