Meditation!!!!!

I. Choosing the mediation

I chose “Guided Meditation by Mark Abramson.” I chose this one because I don’t think I could sit still for longer then 30 minutes.

II. Before the meditation

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

I was feeling exhausted, excited, a little guilty, anxious and happy. I felt exhausted because I went out the might before. I was excited because it was football Sunday and I love football. I felt guilty because I had work to do but I chose to do it later. I was happy and anxious because there was some great football games on TV.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

My overall level of anxiety would be around a 7. I would attribute this to the football games I was watching yesterday.

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

I feel tension in my stomach and as well as in my chest. My stomach feels as if it is contracting and my chest is beating harder then usually. My overall tension would be a 6.5.

III. After the meditation

A. Reassess your mood on the chart.

My mood is now calm, cautious, confident and hopeful.

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

I would put my level of anxiety at a 3.

C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

My physical tension level is now a 4.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I choose the guided meditation by Mark Abramson and he focused on breathing. As I sat in the library listening to the recording I couldn’t help but feel like I was on a beach or a long drive on a quiet road. I started to feel relaxed, calm and a bit drowsy. The more I concentrated on my breathing, the deeper I would fall into this state of mind. There was also a sensation of happiness that hit me. Like it didn’t matter where I was but I was just content. I found staying awake through out the whole recording a bit challenging but I occasionally stretched and felt more awake. I would definitely try this again and I’m excited to check out the other recordings. I live with 3 guys and we tend to get on each others nerves a lot. I think these recordings can bring me to a better state of mind and I truly look forward to it.

H-E-L-L-O

Hey,

My name is Robert Rahmanian and I am proud to be a New Yorker. I was born and raised in Long Island and just recently moved into New York City. This is my last semester at Baruch College (fingers crossed). I am a real estate investment major and I truly enjoyed my time at Baruch. I just feel it is time now that I graduate and live the next chapter in my life.

I love watching football and basketball. These are also my 2 favorite sports to play. When I am not in school, I work as a real estate salesperson, and help people find their dream homes. My family is involved with real estate so this is why I joined the field as well. I love my job and the people I work with.

Now here’s my favorite musical artist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PN78PS_QsM&ob=av2e

"Imagine you are a longtime friend of the person who wrote one of the reflection pieces, and consider these issues for your own comment. 1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I tend to agree with the blogger here. I would do everything in my power to discard the negative memories and concentrate on the positive ones only. This would make me a happier person all in all. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would feel very hurt but I would do everything I possibly could to rekindle the memories. Show him photos, videos and books that may help him remember. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would play a big role because I value my memory a lot and I know how important it is. Again, I would read books, show photos and videos. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I would play music, show photos, play videos, take him/her to places they've been before. I would also cook them food they ate in the past. I think the music would be effective because when I hear a song it brings to a place in the past."

"My hypothesis on this study is that the students who sleep for less then 6 hours a night will have the worst grades. After that, I think the students that sleep for over 10 hours will have the second worst grades. Therefore, I believe the student who sleeps somewhere between 6 and 10 hours will have the best grades and be able to focus more. This hypothesis is coming from my own experience with sleep deprivation. I would adjust the study by separating students by number of credits they are taking and what year they are in. These are important factors when determining how much time one will have to focus and concentrate on a class. Therefore, these factors deter test scored to a certain extent. I don't see any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design. I believe the next step in this hypothetical research study would be to contact the public and let them know what the effects of sleep deprivation is. I know first hand and it is not healthy at all."
