Who are you? Who am i? What was i?!

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

After being diagnosed with retrograde amnesia, i didn’t know what to do. I cannot remember a thing about my past. I really don’t want to be stuck forever in the present and future. Being who i am had to do with what i was. I woke up from this condition to people i didn’t recognize at all. They were really happy to see me alive and that gets me excited. However, who are they? Were they related to me? I also woke up to see posters and “get-well soon” cards? They were lovely words by people that cared for me; again, who are they? and who am i?

My mission is to direct my first questions to the first people that surrounded my bed. It was my “family.” After making me aware of who she was, my mother is definitely reliable. My mother would be the first person i would look for answers.  She seemed to look most concerned about me; so i guess she would know a lot about what i was. From the “get well soon” cards i received, i would ask my family if they knew those people and how can i meet them? An important individual is definitely the doctor, i am sure he has some pretty good ways for me to try to understand this present of mine, and how i got to it and what information i can look for to explain my past. I want to relive my habits, my favorite foods and drinks, my favorite hangout places, my favorite books, artists, music, etc. I also wanted to see my old memories in photos or videos because it might give me an idea of what i used to be and whether i want to continue that way.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

Everyday i woke up to feel devastated. “Family and friends” would come to me day by day talking about the memories. I loved seeing their smile but the feeling inside me was overwhelming. It was so sad that i wasnt able to remember any of this fun. If i had a personal debt to someone for something nice they did for me, i cant pay them back because i dont remember them doing anything for me. Those surrounding people that i once had much in common with, no longer existed in my picture; i couldnt get their jokes, i couldnt remember the places we hanged out in, i couldnt remember the nicknames we called each other, i couldnt remember their birthdays OR MY OWN BIRTHDAY! I couldnt even remember why a birthday was such a big deal till they explained it and showed me all those past memories in video and photos. Why cant i remember anything?!

I feel empty and nothing to live for

I woke up to a present where I’ve lost everything i adore

They try to remind me, but i remained a closed door

Calling for my memories but they look at me and ignore

My desperate voice speaks, “mom, why cant i remember you anymore?”

Just take me away and throw me to a forever moving shore

I’d feel useless if i’m not saved by some cure

I guess, like they say, nothing comes easy, that’s for sure

Im going to probably live a life feeling insecure

But for now i have to move on and begin to live something new and pure

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

I been going through so much for the past couple of years. I been using this amazing medication that has made a path to a brighter future. Trying to remember as much as i can and editing my life like an essay; cutting, pasting and deleting memories. After the amazing efforts by my friends and family, i was able to remember a lot. Sometimes i just remembered things by looking at objects, pictures, places, clothes, foods, drinks, people, etc. Memories like trips or vacations with family and friends, i wanted to forever remember and keep. Remembering the fun we had those times makes me feel like i relived a thousand years. Moreover, high school! My friends actually took me back to our old high school and gave me a tour to every teacher we had, every classroom we were in and all the fun memories we had in those places. THEY GAVE ME BACK MY MEMORIES! Instead of going to the official prom, we made our own; the fun we had there was priceless!

Not everything was all sweet in memory, dark memories came along as well. Those were the memories that i cut out and tried my best to just delete them. I never ever want to remember the death of all the loved ones i lost. I also remembered a little about the people that betrayed me in harsh ways, i stopped myself and didnt allow my memory to go any further to remembering those things. I didnt even want try to investigate it from my friends or family. For the most part, i remembered all the good things that happened to me and i am very grateful for what i have. A choice i made is to stop hunting for memories and move on; you dont live forever, you only live today.

And i say HELLOOOOOOooo

Hello everyone!

My name is Saleh but you can call me SAM. It’s so much easier and you might remember it better. I hope. I am an accounting major. FUN (dont freakout, i know it’s not so much fun). I’m not sure why i chose accounting, but it might be because i been working in our family business forever. At age 7, before coming to the United States, i built my own store (4 feet high) out of rocks; so maybe that explains why my roots have really been in business. Unfortunately i woke up every morning to find it destroyed. My hobbies/interests are poetry, photography, poetry, networking, watching all sorts of documentaries especially conspiracy documentaries, playing around with Garageband in my Macbook (makes your singing voice 10 times better), exploring high tech devices, making youtube videos (youtube.com/saleh426), reading and writing. Those hobbies for an accounting major dont go together in a way because a calculator is supposed to be my favorite electronic. Is it? Anyway, i am currently part of MSA (muslim student association), and i am trying to join into other clubs and i hope you guys are too. Again i love making YOUTUBE VIDEOS! CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL.If you have any ideas for me, i’ll be glad to have them. HERE’S A VIDEO I DID FOR HURRICANE IRENE:

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? I think mediation was having a great fight with Nathan's body because he has lots of tension from mental to physical. His anxiety is very high and i think it would need more than one session of mediation. Mediation was trying to relax him and tell him that everything will be ok. However, the tensions were too strong but they can be defeated. 2. Based on your readings throughout the semester, what areas of their central and peripheral nervous systems may have been effected during the meditation? Meditation allows you to keep your back straight which has a great benefit for the spinal cord. Also it the cerebrum might be effected since it deals with emotions, memory etc. Keeping a a calm emotions that are less anxious. 3. What questions do you have for the writer about their experience? Would prefer doing mediation before working out or before.Do you think that would matter? How many sessions you think it would take to loosen your physical tensions? Would you try other methods of mediation? Are you ready to do whatever it is possible to help your body? 4. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? I'm very much open to any mediating methods."

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? The writer was definitely trying his best to control his the different thoughts that were trying to distract his mediation. However it was very hard for him due to the pain in his feet. The focus on breathing and the determination to do this exercise served him good because he almost fell asleep which would say that he forgot about the pain in his feet. 2. If this exercise did an effect on you, im sure it will do the same for me."

"1. After reading the reflection writer’s description, what do you think was happening to them during the meditation on a physiological level? During their mediation i think their body began to work along with their focus and try to relax them. Wherever tension was in their body, it loosen up a enough for her to feel comfortable. Their worried thoughts were also re-evaluated and became calmer. 2. Based on the description provided, would you be open to trying the same meditation exercise? Absolutely! i been trying to find good methods to mediate because i truly believe that mediation has a great impact on the way we deal with stress."

"Sometimes i find it harder to focus on the lecture with a laptop open because i like taking notes on the printed slides. Taking notes on the slides using the laptop might be a bit slow. Moreover, having the laptop open might be distracting because some times we just want to wonder off somewhere else; to our email, facebook, youtube, etc. If for some reason, we find a lecture to be "boring" that definitely makes us leave the class room and into a website."

"Pepsi Vs. Coke! The outcome would be interesting. However, there might be some down sides to it. That would take some budget to test. There would be some things that would disrupt your study. If you are to choose a particular class, some students may decline the offer of drinking soda; simple because they just dont drink soda (due to it's long term effect). Another thing would be that people drink other drinks that might contribute to the outcome. A solution would probably be monitoring people that already drink both beverages on a regular basis."

"Most definitely a person who travels a lot would favor the monthly metrocard. In order to benefit from such metrocard, you would need to take 50-60 rides a month (according to the MTA). In my case, i would buy a $10 metrocard since i only use it 8 times a week. When you buy the $10 dollar metrocard, they would add .70 cents extra to it. For me, i would be spending 72 (2.25 x 16 days) dollars a month for metrocard. I guess i'm saving some money when avoiding the purchase of the monthly metrocard. By the way, i think a good sample for you is friends and family members. They would be easier to monitor or follow on results."

"hmm..which tea? green tea? regular tea? If it's green tea then you're definitely to get some results over time. The Chinese community consumes lots of tea and it reflects on their good health and balanced weight. Good research."

"Wow you've got a unique life. You live in a high tech society but then you're able to reconnect with nature at its best. That's really cool. We got two things in common: Photography (LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY) and farm. Our farm, which is in another country, grows grapes, peaches, and pomegranates. Nice to meet you!"

When you go out there to look for a job, they want to see a resume that reflects an active individual. Keep that in mind. Let me know if you i can help you with anything."
