Meditation

I meditated to “Guided Body Scan by Gil Fronsdal; Guided Meditation by Mark Abramson).”

I. Before the meditation
A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.
I was feeling happy, anxious, bored, and exhausted.
B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.
My overall level of anxiety would be around a 4.
C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.
My tension is around my shoulders and back. My overall tension would be a 6.
III. After the meditation
A. Reassess your mood on the chart.
My mood is now confident, smug, hopeful, and bored.
B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.
My anxiety level is now a 2.
C. Reasses your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.
My physical tension level is now a 4.
IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?
I choose guided meditation that focused on breathing and meant to raise your confidence level. Many thoughts came in that I became aware of. I felt kind of relaxed and I also felt more calm. I felt some of the tension leaving my body and my anxiety level decreasing. I did not really have any frustrating aspects while meditating. I would definitely try this in the future. I tried meditation before and it always calmed me down, and it helps a lot, so it’s definitely a useful thing to do. It really helps me to relax and think about stuff.

Im sorry to say that psychology is not my intended major. I plan to major in Accounting. I do not know what my favorite classes are thus far. Most of them are just ok…Im interested in mostly all sport but mainly basketball.

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I agree with your decisions on keeping all the happy memories. I think that you should recover some of the bad events. They may not be good memories but some are bound to have been very important to your life. No ones life is perfect and memorizing important events in your life is what makes you who you are today. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? I would feel very sad. I would feel sorry for my friend who lost their memory. They are in a bad position. There would be many memories that would be forgotten if the person does not get their memory back. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? I would help them in any way possible. I would show her pictures and places of their past and hopefully it will remind them of something. I would show them their friends and family that they most closely associated themselves with and see if she remembers anything. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? The technique I would use to help a person recover and reintegrate their memories is retrieval. I would bring my friend to his/her favorite place where we shared a lot of memories with, and remind them about the priceless moments we had."

"What would be your hypothesis of the study’s outcome? I think that playing video games even moderately would even hurt a students test score. They have less and less time to study for the exam. What suggestions do you have for the researcher on how to improve or adjust the proposed study? The types of games that people play vary. Some may need a lot more concentration than others. He may need to do a specific experiment like FPS games only or like puzzle games only. Are there any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design (or results?) The only drawback is the interpretation of what people call moderate, little, or excessive. To gamers, it might not feel as much since an hour may only be good for about 4 games. What would be the NEXT STEP after this hypothetical research study were conducted and presented to the public? Can you propose a replication with a good twist? That’s often how research works and how the field is able to advance. Maybe you can think up a great Follow Up study! They should see which genre of games, people play that will get them better test scores."
