Research Reflection
- What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design? What is the effect of negative feedback on psychological disengagement with participants in college?
- What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate? Feedback is being manipulated and the persons involved are being observed.
- What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc) Experimental
- What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.) The research method used will be a survey
- If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables? The independent variable will be the feedback (positive or negative) being given and the dependent variables are the persons involved.
- Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find. The people who are given negative feedback are less likely to feel confident about retaking the quiz and doing well on it.
- What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it? This study would benefit teachers, managers and other professions that would involve instructing and leading others.
- Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How? The challenges I faced was people’s indifference about the quiz and the results. Because it doesn’t count for anything, I expect many participants would be less than eager to complete the quiz or the results.
