Meditation “Worlds of Thoughts”

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

Right at this very minute I feel as if I could cry more tears than how it’s raining outside. I’m feeling sad, overwhelmed, and frustrated.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

Level of anxiety 8

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

Overall tension is about 8. Location mainly jaw area. Feels as if I’m my biting down on my teeth but in reality I’m not.

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.

1.Reassess your mood on the chart.

I’m more relaxed. Calm.

2.Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

Level of anxiety 2.

3.Reassess your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

Physical tension 2.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I choose “world of thoughts” guided mediation by Gil Fronsdal. As the mediation begun I started to tunes all sounds out of my mind even though I was still quite aware of them. I slowly channel all of what was being said taking in deep breaths. As I exhale over and over with each exhale I became a little less tense. As thoughts enter my mind I tried not to fight against them. I notice as bad thoughts enter my jaw tends to tighten as if that ‘s my way of fighting against them. Once I stop and breathe in and out the tightest in my jaw starts to relax. Most challenging aspect is the amount of thoughts that comes in and out.  This isn’t a bad exercise; I would probably try again in the future. It’s a good way to sit back and center your thoughts and understand where its coming from and just be aware than letting it get the best on you.

Hola Class!

Hola all,  my name is Tanique T Thompson.  I don’t like talking about myself, but hey someone has to do it. I’m a transfer student from New York City College of Technology.  I lived my younger years in Connecticut, moved to New York and still trying to get use to this atmosphere.  My favorite class so far has been History. Surprisingly I enjoyed every minute of that class and I’m not much of a history person.  Off time you can catch me blogging about my virtual life LOL.  I play this virtual game called secondlife, pretty neat.  My blog: http://taytaygg.blogspot.com/

"1. What is your reaction to the choices made by the author of this Reflection in terms of which memories they chose to keep and which memories they are discarding. I thought it was interesting that you’ll look for your memories via Google. Not a bad idea seeing how everything is on Google anyways. I suppose family and friends are good places to start. 2. How would you feel if this friend did not remember you (imagining that you are their longtime friend)? Hmm… I suppose I’ll be a bit disappointed but wouldn’t be angry with the person because of the situation he/she is in. 3. What role might you play in helping them reconstruct their memory? Well I’ll be there for my friend whenever a thought comes to his/her mind and needs clarification. 4. Based on what you’ve learned in class and through your readings, what memory encoding, consolidation, and retrieval techniques might you use or teach to help this person recover and reintegrate their memories? I’ll use the “ Levels of- Processing Model of Memory and Recall”. Starting with the shallowest level, structural processing, phonemic processing, and semantic processing. I would also use method such as mnemonic devices. Ill help my friend form a mental image base on photos and family and friends with names I’ll repeat. . I’ll continue the process till I see improvement."

"▪ What would be your hypothesis of the study’s outcome? My hypothesis is if people get at least 8 hours of sleep per day they will be in a better mood. * What suggestions do you have for the researcher on how to improve or adjust the proposed study? My suggestion is the experimenter should make journal entries, but I suppose in an experiment such as this it would be hard to. * Are there any drawbacks or potential harmful impacts of this research design (or results?) I think having the participants make journal entries themselves leaves an opening for them to not tell the truth. * What would be the NEXT STEP after this hypothetical research study were conducted and presented to the public? Can you propose a replication with a good twist? That’s often how research works and how the field is able to advance. Maybe you can think up a great Follow Up study! Maybe adding another element to the people who gets less than 8 hours of sleep, such as a instrumental music while they are sleeping"
