Meditation Reflection

I. I chose Guided Meditation: Mindfulness of Breathing

II. A. 24 hours before the meditation I was experiencing moods including: Ecstatic, Confident, Happy, Hopeful, Lovestruck, and Anxious

B.  On a scale of 1 to 10, before the meditation my level of anxiety was at a 6

C.  On a scale of 1 to 10, before the meditation my level of physical tension in my body was a 8, I could feel the tension in my lower back and lower stomach area.

III. A. After the meditation I was experiencing moods including: Exhausted, Confident, Happy, Hopeful, and Lovestruck

B.  On a scale of 1 to 10, after the meditation my level of anxiety was at a 4

C.  On a scale of 1 to 10, after the meditation my level of physical tension in my body was a 5 and I could feel it in my chest

IV. I chose the Guided Meditation: Mindfulness of Breathing. During the meditation I was experiencing a feeling of nervousness, although I don’t exactly know why.  My stomach felt heavy and my body felt as if it was getting hotter. My fingers felt tingly, and my I could feel my pulse going through them. My mind felt calm and light, although many thoughts were coming in during the beginning. The thoughts that were coming in during the beginning include thoughts of hope and excitement for things during the school break. It was a little challenging to suppress the thoughts, but throughout the meditation I eventually moved to a feeling of not caring about anything and just focusing on what was going on in my body. Immediately after realizing I had a feeling of not caring about anything, I started to think about all the things I do care about. I would try this again in the future, it definitely helped me relax and relieve the tension on my body. I also think in the future it might even be more effective because I had a lot on my mind when I was doing this one.

Hello Hello!

Hello fellow intro to psychology members, my name is Tedd Zel.  And yes, I will be the only “Ted” you will ever know that spells their name with 2 “d’s” at the end. Just a little fun fact about me, the reason why my name is spelled with 2 “d’s” at the end instead of the traditional 1 is because “Ted” is normally short for Theodore, but my mom didn’t like the name Theodore, so I am simply “Tedd”.  It’s pronounced like “Ted” though, not “Ted-duh” the second “d” is just there, you don’t actually sound it out ;). I am a sophomore here at Baruch and I’m from Queens.  I am a vegan, for those of you who don’t know what that is, it means I don’t eat anything that comes from animals.  Don’t assume that while walking and approaching a tree I run up to it and hug it just because I’m vegan [don’t assume that, but I do ;)]  I’m an outdoors person, I enjoy camping and all sorts of outdoors activities.  After going to the club fair the other day, I decided to try out the environmental club here at Baruch, so we’ll see how that goes, it seems like I would like it.  As far as hobbies and interests, I play the piano, listen to music, I’m a devoted LOST fan, and always interested in learning new things about health and nutrition. For music I mainly stick to classic rock, The Beatles are my favorite (this Kings of Leon morning music shenanigans needs to stop lol). Nirvana is also one of my favorite bands.  Right now I’m currently a full time student, no job. I am majoring in accounting, and I plan on possibly doing some type of study abroad next year if possible. My first choice would be London, second would be France.  Who knows what the future has in store for me, for now I’m just looking to make the best out of college.

"1. I agree with you that it’s important to not only choose to remember good or pleasant memories, bad or traumatic memories are important too. Bad or traumatic memories might even be more important because remembering them will make you aware to avoid such unpleasant situations. Every memory counts and if you are even missing one, you are not the same person. 2. I would feel sorry for your memory loss. And being your life long friend and still remembering all the great memories I would want to share them with you and hopefully you would be happy learning about them rather than frustrated that you cannot remember. I would also be optimistic about it and say that there are lots of new great memories to be made. 3. I would share all what I remember about you to help you reconstruct your memory. I would also bring you to the places you forgot and show them to you, maybe even try to reenact certain memories that happened in the exact same place they did. 4. To help recover your memories through encoding I would show you pictures, explain them in the most detail possible, I think videos would be really affective too, so I would go through any video with you and explain the situation, the people in it, and why you were acting like you were."

"I really like this research topic, and I am curious how the results would turn out. Personally, I don't take notes, I find it very distracting because the writing takes to much of my attention away from what is what is being said. I find that when I try and take notes while listening, I don't actually understand what is being said at the moment it is being said, I am just trying to remember words and write them down as quick as possible. Instead of understanding concepts, I would just be remembering words. But I also think you need to take into account practice, because I am used to not taking notes, I find it easier and more efficient to give my full attention to listening. While a person well practiced in taking notes it might be so easy for them that they could actually listen fairly well while taking detailed notes. It might not be as much of a trade off for them as it is for me."
