Hi my name is Julius Ng and I am a transfer student from Pace University. I was raised here in Manhattan and when it comes to hobbies i have very few. I love playing basketball as one of my top hobbies, and I work out a lot. I use to run a lot as well, mainly because I ran cross country for my high school. I love to travel, I’ve traveled to England and Hong Kong for the past 2 years and hoping to travel to many more places in the upcoming future. If i can describe one word about me, I guess you can happy. I love being happy, i dislike being sad or down. I smile a lot too.

Could retrograde amnesia affects mental behavior of a 5 year old child?

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design?

I want to know how retrograde amnesia could affect the mind of a 5 year child.

  • What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate?

I want to observe how the mental information of the child could be affected by this type of amnesia.

  • What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc)

Experimental design would be the best option.

  • What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.)

I would like to use case study to observe the child behavior.

  • Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find.

Because the retrograde amnesia produces a loss of information that was learned before an injury, I would like to find if a 5 year old kid could accept and overcome this memory impediment after the injury.

  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?

The benefit of this case is understand how difficult would be this kind of trauma for a kid who can not remember his past and how parents and family could help him to accept and overcome the problem.

  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How?

I saw a tv program about retrograde amnesia, I found it really intersting and also te tv show had relation to this class. I faced a challenge when I was watching the program because it was hard to understand, however, at the end of the program I was really interested on the topic.

Retrograde amnesia

In this reflexion, I want to emphasize on how retrograde amnesia can affect the behavior of a five years old child?. I was also thinking what if this 5 years old child is my son and had been given a strong blow to the head that prevents him to remember anything before the accident.

1. How would you begin the process of Recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, Where would you search, and how would you proceed?

First, I would go to a doctor to know what could be the side effects of the medicine. On the other hand, I would seek support on my wife and my family in order to help my son remember some experience before the accident because we represent the closest link to the child. finally, I would consult with a psychologist in order to find the correct way to provide my son mental stability because I would not like that the child will suffer psychological problems after the accident.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you Would Be Going Through Attempt to reconstruct as you your life. Imagine the feelings You Would have.

It would be a huge emotional pain to me, to see my son going through that difficult situation, in which he can not remember any experience of his short life a child. This situation would be so much easier if I would present these types of symptoms but a child does not have sufficient maturity and knowledge to confront this kind situation. A 5 year old kid does not have sufficient mental development to know what happened? Why is this happening? and how he could solve the problem? without the support of an adult.

3. Suppose You Were Able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to Retain and what types of memories Might you decide to edit out of your experience Remembered? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, and so on. Please Elaborate and Explain your decision making process Some.

If I could pick and choose the memories to recover information about his life, definitely I would choose memories of his early childhood where he can recognize who is the mother and the father. Earliest maternal and paternal memories can produce larges positives effects in the behavior of a child.

Hello.  My name is Obaid….pronounced Oh-bad.  I am a sophomore at Baruch.  Psychology is not my intended major, although it is very interesting.  One of my favorite classes at Baruch has been ENG 2100 with Professor Riley.  He’s a great professor and made English very interesting for me and English is my worst subject.  I don’t belong to any club or organization here at Baruch however i am part of the Hunter College B-boy club.  I joined that club because some of my close friends started that club and Hunter is about 10-15 min away so its not that bad.  Some of my hobbies include playing sports like basketball, B-boying, playing pool, and just having a good time with friends.

Hey, my name is David Aharoni. I’ m an undergraduate student at Baruch. I haven’t decided on my major yet, but it will be Business orientated. I grew up on the Upper East Side.

When I have the time, I  produce digital music- House music, and all that jazz. . haven’t tried Dubstep yet. My favorite sport would have to be playing tennis. Last two summers I was a tennis instructor and worked with underprivileged children. Putting a smile on their faces puts a smile on mine 😀

I thought that this performance was extremely interesting. All the people reading the monologues were very good at acting according to each monologue that they were reading which made the performance interesting to watch.

Case Study for how everyday exercise can improve cognitive stability in college students.

■ Research question to explore through a research study design:

The research study design is to find out whether college students who also work out have a higher state of mental stability.

■ Variables and concepts to observe and/or manipulate:

There are two variables: Students exercising and studying is being manipulated while the grades of students are being observed.

■ Research design research question:

The research study is going to be experimental. Because correlation does not mean causation, experimental study suits my research question.

■ Research method to conduct experiment:

The research method will be case study to conduct experiment.

■ Independent and dependent variables:

The exercise and studying of students is the independent variable and the grades of  the students are the dependent variable for the case study.

■ Hypothesis:

The students exercising and studying will have mostly higher grades in college due to their mental state when they study and take exams. They will be more in control and collective.

■ Benefits and implications of this study:

This study is beneficial for students. Students who study a lot already have a high percentage of getting a high grade on the exam, but if you can relieve yourself and create this mental state in which you are calm and collective, it will allow you to grasp more information and keep you less stressed out.

■ Process of designing this experiment:

So, I selected the variables and arranged them as dependent and independent. After that I hypothesized that students exercising and studying will have better grades in school. It was an interesting experimental design. It does have some confounding variables as well , for example, it depends on what variables relieve the student of stress etc. Exercise may not work for everyone student. I believe students should find what helps them relieve themselves, even if it’s just taking a break to grab your favorite drink.

Do student athletes perform better in class than normal students?

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design?

I want to know if student athletes perform better in class than normal students.

  • What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate?

I want to look the students performance in class by the two groups.

  • What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc)

Correlational would be the best option.

  • What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.)

I would like to use case study to observe the individuals of both groups of students.

  • Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find.

I think that normal students perform better in class because they are more determinated on what they want to do in college. On the other hand, some students athletes go to college just because they want to get scholarships for play, so they neglect their classes because of the sports.

  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?

The benefit of this case would be acknowledge. Students athletes have to recognize that sometimes perform good in class is more important that play sports.

  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How?

it was not difficult for me. I tried to compared my experiences as a college baseball player with my friends and I found out that they perform better in class than me and others students athletes.

Does eating breakfast affects your ability to remember thing?

I want to see if eating breakfast in the morning affects your ability to remember. There will be two groups of 50 students randomly selected. Group A will eat the same kind of breakfast while group B does not eat anything. Then, both groups will be put into a lecture hall to remember a story for 10 minutes. After that they will relax for 15 minutes and then take a test based on that story. Whichever group that scores the highest on the test is the group that remembers better than the other group.

In my experiment the independent variable is breakfast and my dependent variable is the ability to remember. My hypothesis is that the students who ate breakfast will be able to remember better than the students that did not eat breakfast. If my hypothesis is correct, then students should eat breakfast every morning so they can remember things in class better.

I think the hardest part of designing this experiment is to come up with a research question.

Does students are more focus to study in the morning or at night??!

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore though a research study design?

Is that true that taking morning classes help to perform better at school

  • What variables or concept are you looking to observe or manipulate?

The amount of people who taking morning classes perform better at school.

  • What type of design would best suit your research question?

Experimental Research will be the best to analyze which group of people perform more …

  • What Research would you use to conduct your experiment?

Naturalistic Observation will be the most reliable results…

  • Give a Hypothesis of what you think you might  find.

I think that students perform more and are more focus in the morning that in the evening , after a long day …

  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it?

I thin k that students who  take evnening classes will have  more benefit  because they will see better results by taking evenings classes.

  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected?

It was more difficult than I expected because some students cannot take mornings classes because of their work or other activities during the entire day.

hello

hi every body!

My name is John Melonik and I perhaps watch too much t.v.  If you are subject to reading any of my posts i will often make subtle references to the simpsons, family guy, futurama and many other satirical shows.  This may in itself seem irrelevant but such shows give insightful snapshots at psychology in society. I also watch the history and discovery science channel frequently.  Quantum physics and sociology fascinate me.

I juxtapose this side of myself by actually being quite sporty, i play a lot of sports and am even a proficient enough swimmer to be a lifeguard.  You can look out for me on the beaches of coney island in the summer. I do not believe in letting life pass you by, i think you have to grab it by the balls to be successful.  You have to learn as much as you can in life even if you know you can not learn it all. “the un-analyzed life is not worth living” Socrates.

Hello

1. My name is Kreshnik Duka, I am 19, and I am currently a sophomore at Baruch College. After getting to know the area and becoming more familiar with people, I have learned to love it here. I have lived in Staten Island all of my life. My family is from Albania and I am Muslim. I am the first person in my family to attend college and I am motivated to do my best. I like to work with other students in groups so we can all help each other and benefit our grades. When I am not doing schoolwork, I like to go out with friends and have a good time. I love watching movies, listening to music, and studying my religion. My favorite subject is Math and my major will involve just that.

Psychology is not my intended major, but I find it very interesting, relevant, influential. It has been one of my favorite classes thus far. I plan on majoring in Actuarial Science and I am in the Actuarial Science club. I am also a member in the Phi Eta Sigma Honor society.

2. I am a huge Jets fan. J!-E!-T!-S! JETS JETS JETS

Hello

This is actually my first semester of my sophomore year here at Baruch. I grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and have been there all my life. I really enjoy music and film. I cant think of a genre of music that I dont listen to. I like to watch alot of movies especially some classic ones (Two off the top of my head I’ve seen in the last week are Citizen Kane and The Seventh Seal). I also enjoy playing electric guitar. So far my favorite class has been psych of course, no joke. Unfortunately I dont think Baruch has any good clubs at all unless perhaps there is some really cool one I never heard of but I highly doubt it.  As for sharing something that reflects me I like to think that I am a lighthearted guy who enjoys comedy alot so here is something that always gets me to smile . I hope this sheds some light on who I am.

Hello

My name is Jerome Sturrup, I was born in the Bahamas, but raised in New York. I think my personality reflects my Bahamian background( and my NYC upbringing-my demeanor is very mello and cool, but I have that desire and motivation to win!

I live in Harlem with my brother, who also attends Baruch. This is my first semester at Baruch and I haven’t decided on a major. I’m pretty much studying Psychology and Sociology right now because iI have a genuine interest in both subjects, besides both subjects are prerequisites to many majors. II like to watch documentaries about social issues in foreign countries, which makes me appreciate being in this country. I like Baruch for it’s diversity and I feel really fortunate to me a part of this academic community. and looking forward to building friendship with people of different cultures. My other interest are cars, Porsche, in particular and someday I would like to work at Porsche, either in their Marketing department or become the first black man to become President of their company. I know thats a wild goal, but in my wildest dreams I would like to be self-help guru, so I could see how the study of psychology would essential in both careers.

Hello

Hi, everyone! My name is Cindy. I am currently a sophomore in Baruch college. My intended major is Accounting. I wanted to become an accountant because of several reasons. I was always so unclear about my future occupation while growing up. I didn’t know what job would be best suitable for me. Although salary is also something that plays an important role in my decision-making, interest was something that I cared more about. Since I always prefer math classes rather than english classes during high school years, I figure that maybe accountant would be a pretty decent occupation for me. My aunt is an accountant who tells me a lot about her job experiences. Although her job stories weren’t all that interesting and exciting, but they all sounded stable and relaxing. Hence, I decided to follow the path of my aunt.

It’s been a year since I had attended Baruch college. Being a sophomore means having more responsibilities and heavier workloads. I enjoyed my freshman years with my block schedule in the first semester. I found it easy to bond with people in my block because we all had the same classes. I also joined Hong Kong club in my second semester of my freshman year and am currently still a member. I was born in Hong Kong, therefore I was very fond of this club to begin with. As I went to several of their meetings and eventually became a staff,I realized this club became an important part of my school life. I am glad to be able to meet many new friends and joining this club definitely made my college life more fun and joyful.

Hello

Hi, my name is Kelvin. This is my first semester in Baruch as a freshman. I have lived in Brooklyn my entire life. By far, psychology is the most interesting class of my semester, but I have not decided what I want to major in yet. My interests include music and dance; I am not the greatest dancer but I am trying to learn now. The first dance I have ever learned was the shuffle. Contrary to what you may believe, i didn’t start because of Party Rock Anthem. I saw a song I liked and the choreography was based on the shuffle. After I learned how to shuffle, I became more interested in different dance styles so I’ve started to look at a lot more dance videos of popping, waving and break dancing. I am not that great now but I am aspiring to be better. If you know any dance moves, I would be glad to learn from you.

HELLO

Hello, my name is Sharon Kim. I am originally from Los Angeles, California and I’ve been in New York for about 3-4 years. So far I’m getting used to this new city and I absolutely love how different this city is compared to Los Angeles. I transferred into Baruch college this semester from Pace University. The reason why I transferred into Baruch College was because it is well known for their business program. My major is business undecided and I plan on either majoring in Finance or Accounting. I love photography, fashion, and meeting new people.  Psychology is not my intended major but I do enjoy this subject as it keeps me awake unlike the rest of my classes. If anything, I am thinking of minoring in psychology. I recently joined the Korean American Club and I’m also thinking of joining the accounting or finance clubs at this school. That sums up a brief summary of who I am!

Hello

I’m a sophomore here at Baruch..I actually took Psych with Sitt before but withdrew, and I’m still undecided on my major. Born and raised in Yorkville (UES) and so far Sitt’s psychology class is actually my favorite. Him and the new professor (sorry I forgot your name bro I know it starts with a Z) engage the class much more than the other classes I’ve been in. I do have Facebook but I’m rarely on it…I’m a big music fiend though so if listening to music can be considered a hobby, that’s one of mine.

Hello Classmates!

My name is Gabriela Serrano, but I am used to everyone calling me Gabby. I graduated in 2007 from LaGuardia Community College with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science. Last fall was my first semester at Baruch College. I intend to major in Accounting and have a minor in business writing.

From Monday through Friday I have a busy schedule with school and work. As for weekends I try to spend it with my close friends and family. I am not into the club/ partying scene but I do enjoy going out to have dinner and drinks. My friends and I can spend hours talking about anything.

I love food! I love trying new types of food. However, I do not cook. I love my moms cooking; we are from Mexico and her homemade food is delicious!

I don’t spend much time watching TV, but I do watch news almost every morning. I played softball in high school and overall I would say that I am an athletic person.

So I hope we all continue to have a fun in psychology class, because so far it has been; and best of all, we are learning something new at the same time!

I get bored of listening to the same music on my iTouch, which is why I love Pandora Radio online! http://www.pandora.com

Hello Everyone

For starters, my name is Richard. I was born and raised in NYC in queens. This is my second year here at Baruch and loving the school (except for the commute everyday). Psychology is not my intended major but it definitely is an interesting subject and it is my favorite class this semester.

As for hobbies and interests. Movies and music can get me out of any bad mood. I love movies and i love music because those two things are gateways to your imagination. Any feeling, mood, idea etc can be expressed through movies and music. Movies and music allow you to escape the non stop rush of NYC life just for a moment and let you live in your imaginations; even if the moment is all too brief, it’s still a great moment.

http://www.imdb.com/   The best website out there…everything that pertains to movies. Enjoy 🙂

hello everyone

My name is Xingyi. You guys can call me Li which is easier for you. I came from China, and have been here for four years. This is the second year I have been in Baruch. I like swimming that I just learn how to swim, but I love it. Psychology is not my intended major, but I like this class, even I didn’t do well on the past. My poor English makes me have hard time in study. I hope I can do better in the future.

I am a shy person, I am a litter afraid to talk to people, and maybe I’m worry about my poor English. But I am an easy going person.

Hello Everyone

My name is Danilo Torre and I am currently attending Baruch pursuing my second bachelor’s degree in international business. I was born in Lima, Peru, South America and worked for about ten years in import-export business between USA-Peru. At the moment, I am working as a swim coach at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, and coaching little kids of ages 7 to 10. But I definitely want to return to the import and export business soon.

Hello Everyone

Hello classmates! This is my first year in Baruch and I am a freshman. I grew up in Queens, NY for the first eight years of my life, but then I moved to Scarsdale, NY. My family is from India and I speak Gujarati and Hindi along with English. Most of my time outside of college is spent playing sports with my friends. The sports that I play the most are soccer, basketball, and bowling. I enjoy playing video games on my Xbox such as Halo, C.O.D., and Fifa. I am very interested in criminal shows like the first 48, criminal minds, C.S.I., and forensic files. Psychology is not my intended major; it just happened to be in my block for my first semester. Psychology is easily my favorite class so far even though i wasn’t quite psyched to take it. It’s a lot of work, but I am enjoying learning about myself and the professors are helping out a lot. I haven’t joined any clubs yet, but I am planning to join at least one by the end of the semester.

I am looking forward to majoring in finance. I chose this as my major because it has a lot of job opportunities and it’s something I would like to do in the future. When I am at home I am always on my computer, logged onto Facebook and playing some online games. I would describe myself as a funny and caring person once people get to know me. I don’t really open myself up to new people, but once I do I start to talk more and socialize. I hope to make some more friends in my freshman year and keep up my grades.

Hello fellow Psychology 1001 students!

Hi everyone! It might already be obvious, but my name is Esther. I am a freshman; therefore, this is my first semester here at Baruch. I was born in New York. Psychology isn’t my intended major, but I find it really interesting. There are many things I didn’t know about certain behaviors and other things that became clear to me during each Psychology class. I have to say Psychology is one of my favorite classes. It is very interesting and the professors make the less a bit more exciting than my others. Though this post is short, I hope everyone has a wonderful year.

Hello Hello Hello

Hey everyone! My name is Dennis McGovern I’m a transfer student from Nassau Community College. I’m an accounting major and unfortunately have a long way to go to get any kind of degree so I don’t even know what to consider myself, sophomore, junior? I really enjoy coming to Baruch so I won’t mind the extended stay! Some of my hobbies are hanging out with friends, going to the gym, playing sports like basketball and football, and reading.

HELLO PSY1001

My name is Marie Agpalo. I’m a transfer student from Queens College. I’m a sophomore and I’m glad to say that this class was my first class here at Baruch. Who else loved the Professor’s rap today? haha. I’m a full filipina. Accounting major just like anyone else here pretty much. So far, classes are going well. Some more interesting than others but I blame the professors, not so much the material. I rep F.U.S.I.O.N and interested in joining W.I.B. here at Baruch as well but we’ll see how everything works out. Meeting new people, how exciting!

Hello!

My name is Tony Yeung and I am a sophomore at Baruch. My focus this year is to dedicate the majority of my time to improve my grades, as my grades coming into sophomore were mediocre at best. I enjoy playing sports such as volleyball, handball, basketball and swimming. I like to spend any free time that I have napping. I am currently the Rush Chair of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity so all my time that is not spent on school is spent working on the fraternity and helping in any way I can.

I look forward to doing good in this class and even beyond that, doing good in this school year.

Hello!

“Hello,”

My name is Maxx Colson, I’m originally from California and have been living in NY for 3 years. I moved out here to work in the music industry as a recording engineer and after almost 2 years of working for an independent label I felt like I was definitely ready to pursue college diligently. This is my first semester at Baruch, I transferred from BMCC and couldn’t be happier to finally be challenged academically. With that said I am also happy to be in a school with such a high population of russian females whom somehow seem to have the power to inhibit me from higher levels of reasoning at times.

My intended major is Finance, but I am still waiting to fill my perquisite classes before I can apply to Zicklin and make it official. I enjoy psychology and hope to keep studying it on some level outside of the classroom in the future. I’m currently not part of any student organizations and don’t really plan to be until next semester. I work at a bar on the weekends so between that and trying to do well in school my life is pretty busy. I will get depressed if I start talking about all of my hobbies since I have neglected so many of them for too long, but I will say I have been persistent at working out (mostly running) for the last couple months.

I don’t really have anything interesting happening for myself on the web besides FaceBook – sorry!

-Maxx Colson

Hello!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Amaraa. This is my first semester as a transfer student at Baruch College! I am from Mongolia, which may not sound so familiar for a lot of people. It is a small country sandwiched between the two giants: Russia and China. But it is an independent country, which is an important fact to point out. Psychology is not my intended major but I have to say that, this is my favorite course by far. I am sure everyone will agree with me!

Besides studying Computer Information Systems at Baruch College, I love to learn about other cultures and languages. My native language is Mongolian, which is very unique and there is nothing like it. I can also speak Spanish and Japanese. I have traveled to Guatemala, El Salvador and Ecuador last year. There is nothing like exploring the other side of the world and getting familiar with different cultures and customs. My goal is always to avoid usual tourist traps and get oneself immersed with local people and communities as much as possible while traveling.

I am extremely content with my decision to come to Baruch College. It has been a great experience so far. New York City provides an ideal environment for any one who loves to explore. You turn around every little block in this city and you discover so much history and stories behind them! For those, who are international students, i say, take advantage of every single opportunity Baruch College has to offer and enjoy!

I wish good luck to everyone! Keep learning!

Hello!!

Hello! My name is Min Jee Choi and I am a freshmen in the Macaulay Honors program. I was born in South Korea and I came to the United States when I was 5 years old. I can speak, write, and understand Korean and English fluently, and I can speak and understand very little Spanish. I don’t have an intended major yet, but I do have an interest in finance or business law. I plan on taking many core/ elective classes to see if I can find a major in which I have a passion for.

I enjoy playing sports and I’m not afraid to sweat. My favorite sport is volleyball, and I was in my church’s volley team. Math is my favorite topic, but I am not taking a math class this semester. Science, especially chemistry, happens to be my worst subject, but physics was okay because there was math involved. I commute to Baruch everyday from Queens, which takes about an hour to an hour fifteen everyday. I don’t mind the commute yet.

And lastly, on mondays and wednesdays, I have a 6 hour break in between my two classes.

It was a pleasure to write a bit about myself on this blog! 🙂

The link attached is a cover done by two of the youtube stars I really like, Sam Tsui and Christina Grimmie. Check it out! 🙂

Hello!!!

Hello to every one, my name is Milos Micunovic and I am transfer student, right now freshman but as soon my credit evaluation is done I ‘ll sophomore 🙂  I came from Serbia 3 years ago and I change several jobs before finally I enroll Baruch.  My major is accounting even though I got bachelor degree in graphic technology in Serbia, so it is not related at all with previous college. My personal opinion is that when people have to decide which College to choose and major they are still young “integrity vs. integrity” 🙂 and usually do not stay in that field forever or sometimes they are unhappy letter in life if they stay in field.  That’s the reason why I choose my major totally different from before because now I know that this is something that I really like.

I like soccer, skiing, tennis and if someone else here like to play tennis let me know. maybe we can catch up sometimes…

Hello!~~~

Hello everyone!

I am Minglu Liu, a currently sophomore in Baruch College; and also feel free to call me Lucie, I will be very comfortable with that. I am a Chinese immigrant and came to america when I was in junior high school. At the beginning, I really wished that I could go back to China and never came to america again but after years I found out that I actually like here. This is still too early for me to decide where I am going to live and work in future but now I feel that I only want to stay in Baruch to finish the last period of my student life.

I have a list of the things that I will want to do in my college years and the top one is to learn another foreign language. Even thought there are many language courses that I can choose to take but I actually want to learn much more about Korean language so badly. So if there are any Korean friends who are interested in Chinese, feel free to contact me! ^^ I can teach your Chinese and then you can teach me Korean. Let’s make an absolutely effectively free-trade as a great memory in our college life.

Hello,

My name is Jongsung Park. I am from South Korea. My major is accounting. Also I am second degree student and new transfer student. This is my first semester!!! My first major was Fine Art. However I do not like Find Art. Because one day, when I was doing a presentation of art criticism in class, one of my classmate told me you looked like a dreamer. That is way, I thought carefully about one of my classmate said in class. And I asked to myself “what am I doing?’ I could not define what I was doing my work. So I changed my mind  and I change my major.Neverthless I like Gustav Klimt, Econ Schiele and Barnett Newman. Finally, I do not like social network on internet; as a result, I seldom use Facebook, twitter and etc …

Hello, Friends

Hello friends,

My name is Vikram Yadav. I am from India. I took Accounting as a Major and I know now that I made a right choice. My professional vision is to get a Master’s degree in Accounting. I want to start my own business so that I can earn more repect and money to fulfill my dreams.

My personal vision is to help poor people because I know what poverty is? How it feels when somebody in poverty. I want to help those people who don’t have home and couldn’t afford to eat. I don’t want to live for myself; I want to live for others. I don’t want to earn money for myself, but I want to earn money to help others who doesn’t have any source to survive their lives.

Mother Teresa is my inspiration. Her quotes gave me a sense of living. Through her thoughts, I found the answers to my most difficult questions. Here are the most famous quotes by Mother Teresa that can definately create a peace in the whole world.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
“One of the greatest diseases is to be nobody to anybody”

“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop”

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”

Hello..

Soo my name is Julia Paternoster, I’m 18 and this is my first semester at Baruch. I live in queens and grew up here all of my life. I went to St.Francis Prep high school and had the time of my life, I wish I could stay there forever. During high school I was the captain of the volleyball team and throughout all four years we never lost a game… I guess you can say I’m living in the glory days but I’ll soon get over it. My intended major is to be an accountant and complete the five year program. My favorite class so far would probably have to be english or music. I don’t belong to any clubs at Baruch yet but maybe next semester I will join.

A quote that I would say expresses me is my tattoo and it says ” Laugh as much as you breathe, and love as long as you live”.

Hey Guys & Gals, it’s nice to be with you all this semester : )

Hello fellow psychologists-in-training (maybe?), my name is Jennifer Garcia and I am a sophomore at Baruch pursuing a finance major. I grew up in the Bronx, but have been all over, recently settling down in my Long Island City neighborhood for two years now – and loving it! I’m right by the East River which gives me a chance to stop by most mornings with a cup of coffee and reflect upon myself, do yoga or just prep for whatever challenges the day will bring. I absolutely love animals and cooking cruelty-free meals for my friends and family. Cruelty-free is a phrase I like to use for “vegan”, which is what I am and have been for 4 years now…among other things. When I’m not in school, I like to go to Lincoln Center (I saw Franz Liszt performed there last), the opera house, the theatre (check out La Mama for fantastic off-off Broadway), hiking in the Catskills, cozying up with my better half in a little jazz club and dancing until morning. School is great and everything, but I think it’s really important to develop stimulating and fun hobbies that keep you well-balanced and happy.

I also participate in Baruch Women in Business Association and am the coordinator for community service events this year. If anyone is interested in partaking in some fun community service events, please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy you send you a list of upcoming events for this year. I came up with them so I can vouch that they will be fun, I promise! : ) Do you know what else is fun? Psychology! Yes, isn’t it just fascinating? It’s definitely my favorite class so far. I can even say that I don’t even mind waking up early and skipping the gym on Wed and Fri for class! Well, that’s it for me folks. Hope you all enjoy an exciting semester!

-Jenn

Hey Guys!!!

Hello. My name is Nana Yaa Ansah. I am currently a sophomore. I live in Manhattan and my background is Ghanaian. I love being active and playing sports and concerts!!! I played basketball from middle to highschool, love football, volleyball, tennis, rollerskating.. all that. I do want to learn how to skateboard though, kinda scared of busting my head open … yeah.

I haven’t declared a major yet, but it’s between Marketing, Communications or Journalism. Psychology is definitely one of my favorite classes and Prof. Zapolsky’s rap just made it better. I just might make it my minor. My other favorite class is Communications with Pison. He really teaches us a lot about politics you won’t hear elsewhere. I am still looking to see if I want to join any clubs. I wrote a few articles for the school paper last year. I have been to a few events. I just won the Nintendo Wii from the Chinese Moon Festival event the other day so that was cool : )

I don’t really have a blog or anything. I find it too time consuming and facebook is getting on my nerves with their updates, but I’m sticking it out.

Hey!

My name is Tanay Rudra, I am an international student and this is my first semester at Baruch. I was born in India but haven’t really stuck to one place for more than 4 years! This is due to the fact that my Dad works for the UN and that has obvious consequences, one of them being moving every 3-4 years. I started out in India and then went to Bangladesh (then back to India) , England (then back to India again) and now the United States.

My intended major is business administration but that’s still far off into the future, adding some flexibility to it. I enjoy doing a lot of things in my spare time ranging from sleeping to reading and listening to music. But off late I seem to be a bit deprived of that much sought after time!

Anyway this was somewhat of an introduction to who I am and I’m looking forward for what this course has in store for us.

Hey, any transfer students out there

Honestly, coming into Baruch as a transfer student I knew that i was gonna get screwed out of the good teachers and classes. But this psychology class  is probably the only class that i am enjoying this semester. Our professors really know how to make this class fun and interesting.

Post if you feel the same way…

Hi hi everyone!

My name is Michael Wojtas, I am a junior majoring in accounting, and this is my 2nd semester at Baruch.  I transferred from City College, where I studied chemistry and was a year away from applying to pharmacy schools, but I decided to do a complete switch and go into something totally different.  Its fun and all learning about chemistry, but the fact that I would have never been able to witness all but a handful of things I was learning about put me off.  No fun in studying and dedicating your life to a “2nd hidden world” of sorts.  Why accounting?  It is organized and simply makes sense, “by the books.” 🙂

Some other general info… I was born here in NY, but my parents are Polish.  As a result I grew up speaking it, and it is still the language used in the household.  I am a huge NFL fan, favorite team being the Jets though I am not too sure about this season… seems like they are going to be more of a passing team and not the brutish running team from seasons before.  Some nerdy things?  Sure!  I read comics from time to time, primarily those by Marvel (Captain America is my fav) and I like Nintendo games, new and old.

Hi Professor Sitt

I always thought that psychology was boring and kind of scary to know part of the science. ALso all psychologists looked to me little more odd than a regular person. I am glad that you and professor Sapolskiy made me to change my mind and I actually enjoy not only the class lectures but also I have a lot of fun while reading the book. Things make more sense, actions and reasons became clear and I now have an answers on people behavior…. Thank you for that…. Sorry if I am not clear… I am running out of the house….

Hi!

Hey everyone! I’m Ming and I’m currently a freshman at Baruch.  This is my 3rd semester here. I haven’t declared a major yet, but I’m leaning towards something in the nutrition field. I’ve always wanted to be a pilot but that I’ve decided to push that aside until much later. Aside from school, I work part-time in a health clinic. So pretty much I don’t have a lot of time to hang out or join any clubs being that I have to rush back and forth in between school and work.

When I do have spare time, I like to go biking along Shore Road in Brooklyn. Its a really relaxing place for me I guess. I also LOVE watching Friends! It always gets me laughing especially Joey.

I wish everyone the best of luck this semester!

Hola

First and foremost, my name is Barry . i was born and raised in NYC. I’m a freshman and thrilled to finally being a Baruch undergraduate. I’m not quite sure on my intended major, but I have a desired interest in becoming an investment analyst. I spend majority of my time in school studying, as well as being a manager at McDonalds, and whatever extra time I may have I prefer to spend it in the gym. I don’t necessarily have any hobbies, too busy to have any. As interesting and knowledgeable Psychology is, It’s not my cup of tea career wise. Nevertheless, good luck to everyone!

Hola! (Hi!!!)

Hi All,

I am shy too! But somehow I feel more comfortable expressing myself online 🙂 My name is Wilson Ruiz and I live in Ridgewood Queens at the moment. My background is Puerto Rican, I grew up in Puerto Rico but I was always back and forth from PR to NYC. I went to Murry Bergtraum HS, but I completed High School in Puerto Rico :). I have an Associates in Applied Science in Computer Information Systems from BMCC. I am also a full time employee holding a System Analyst position for a Financial Service corporation.

Hobbies, hmm… I surf the internet most of the time, I like going out to movies, and restaurants. I enjoy working out and taking long walks around the city.

This is my second semester at Baruch College and I must say I LOVE BARUCH! Starting from fellow students who are dedicated to work hard to achieve success at the school and also, the professors are the best professors I’ve ever had in my life. They have broaden my perspective of the world. I’m intending to graduate from Zicklin School of Business, but I am unsure of my major for now. I have been thinking to switch from the IT path to business.

Honestly, I was skeptical about taking Psychology class, I thought it was going to be boring. But so far, I have applied what I’ve learned in class in my day to day life, co-workers and family. It has helped me understand the foundations of humans. I know now that I will benefit from this class and apply it to myself and others who surrounds me.

Wish all a very happy and healthy fall season ahead.

Holaz Everyone!!!

Hello everyone, my name is Racheal Ali and I am a sophomore at Baruch college. I was born in Trinidad, a small Island of the cost of Venezuela and lived there for seven and a half years until I moved to NYC. I like singing, playing sports and just taking in the outdoors for fun.  Psychology is not my intended major but I am considering minoring in it since I believe that it is essential for a person to understand the human mind when entering the Business world. Sadly, I have not joined any clubs or organizations, but I do intend to! I am honestly not sure what to share from the web. I do have, probably two videos on YouTube with me speaking on a panel about the proposed closing high schools. I am not sure if anyone is aware of it but Bloomberg and Joel Klein started closing up to 94 schools because there are supposedly improving the school system. That simply shows that when I feel strong about something I will fight for it. It’s too much to say but I did go to great lengths to try and keep my school and the other schools from closing. In the end we got an injunction but that obviously does not stop the government. Regardless of the pass, I look forward to an awesome semester with you all!!

I’m Saying Hello!

Hello my name is Bryan Li, currently a sophomore and my intended major is accounting. Psychology does seem to be an interesting topic/subject but it would be difficult to major as I have an older sister who has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Binghamton University and many of my family members believe it’s a useless degree. My favorite classes this semester is accounting and statistics. They seem fairly simple so far and the concepts are easy to grasp. I’m not currently in any student clubs or organizations but I do plan on being more active around campus this year and intend on joining a business fraternity such as Beta Alpha Psi. Some of my favorite interests or hobbies include playing all sorts of sports and having fun with others. Also, I enjoy occasional puzzles such as Sudoku or a new one I recently discovered called KenKen which is similiar to sudoku but with a math twist added to it. Here’s a random and simple one I found online:
KenKen
There are easier or simpler ones such as 3×3 or 5×5 and even 6×6. Basically the goal is to finish the puzzle like sudoku, having only one number repeating horizontally and vertically however there are thick lines in the puzzle highlighting each “cage”. Within each cage the numbers in the cage would have to equal to the number on the upper left using the mathematical process given next to the number.

Is social networking more detrimental than beneficial?

I want to see if the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter pose as a threat to productivity in college. It can be seen as the biggest cause of procrastination among students, as I can relate through first hand experiences.

Some variables that I can use and manipulate would be the amount of time on facebook, the number of people this person is talking to, and how socially involved this person is.

Experimental would best suit this case because we’re looking for more of a qualitative observation of the subject’s concentration in work, rather than a numerical outcome of how long it takes.

I think this experiment would go better with surveys and lab experiment. The surveys will ask subjects how much they go on facebook. The lab experiment will be an observational course. With each subject assigned the same amount of work to be done in one night, some will not have access to a computer (given that the homework is handwritten), while the rest are given a computer with only facebook available. There is also an outsider group communicating to some of these people (ie. talking, sharing photos, music, etc…) while the rest are just on facebook not talking to anyone.

The independent variable will be the work given, as well as facebook and other social networking sites. The dependent variables will be the work produced/the time it took for the work to be completed, as well as how often this person went on facebook during the course of this experiment.

I’m sure that those without the distraction of facebook will have more in depth work, as well as being done in less time. The people that were on facebook but had no one to talk to would take more time, but less time than those who were having conversations on social networking sites.

I’m sure everyone who has some sort of social networking website have often found it very hard to concentrate on their homework, but hopefully, through seeing the results of this experiment, they will realize how time-wasting social networking is when there are priorities and things that need to be done. There is a time and place for everything, and facebook can wait.

Thinking about an experiment that I would be interested in was pretty hard, because I wanted it to be something related to the difficulties I have with school. I thought about the possible conditions this experiment could be held in and i decided a lab experiment was most appropriate. I thought this was pretty unique and fun of an experiment and i didn’t have too much difficulty completing it.

Yeeppp…. Baruch seems difficult compare to other CUNY colleges. I’ve also studied in Hunter and nothing feels like this college. I like it a lot but I have so much readings and especially homework. I would not mind if I didn’t have a job.

My overall level of anxiety is 6

C.   Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I chose the guided body scan and it was pretty easy as well as relaxing. We pretty much drained all of our thoughts from our bodies and I would definitely try this again as well as recommend it to others. This definitely relaxed me however did not affect my physical pain at all.

Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I have choose the meditation by Gil Fronsdal. This mediation gave me so different feeling of before and after. At first felt weird and I didn’t think or focus on what he instructed to me. My brain was blank and think about nothing else. I just felt boring to do such thing. But then, it has changed my feeling and thought. I tried to followed what Fronsdal asked me to do , relax and breath. I knew this is work for lots of situation, especially when you are nervous and about to present your speech. During the mediation I felt relax and less struggle myself. I felt less boring and being get into the meditation. I think the way he instructed me not just helping me on some situation , it helps me a lot. I will highly recommend my friend to try it if they have such chance. Especially people who lives in city, we struggle with stress every single day, we stress on work , school, money, grade. We really need relax ourselves in order to work well our work.

MEDITATION 101

A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

Right now I am exhausted and happy. I’m usually relaxed but when I think about all my school work I begin to feel a little stressed.

B.   Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

My overall level of anxiety is 2.5

C.   Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

My level of physical tension is 3.5 because I have pain in my legs from my shoes

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.

A.   Reassess your mood on the chart.

After the meditation, I felt more relaxed and “light”

B.   Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

My anxiety level is 1

C.   Reassess your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

My physical tension level is now a 2

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I chose the Guided Meditation in the heat. Personally I like hot yoga, and the feeling of sweating. After hot yoga, and now likewise with this, I felt like a weight was lifted and I now feel much “lighter”. The frustrating part of it was at points I lost focus and though too much on how hot the room was and how I wanted a drink of water, but I would quickly refocus myself on what I was doing. I’d definitely try this again in the future. I think it’s a great way to clear your mind, body, and soul!

Meditation Can Be Dangerous

On sunday, I decided to meditate while I was washing dishes. At the beginning of my meditation, I was feeling angry.  The anger was coming from the pit of my stomach and then I experienced an ache in my heart. As I dwelled on the anger, I went to a place where I felt like my brain was empty. I calmed my mind, stabilized my concentration, focused on my attention and enhance awareness of the precent emotion. A few seconds later, I witnessed reappraisal. Reappraisal helped me recognize a new point of view of why I felt angry and how it got to that level. In other words, this meditation exercise allowed me to reevaluate the overall situation.

I was extremely excited when I figured a new conclusion for my problem, that I cut myself with a knife while picking up the next plate to wash. I was rushed to the hospital and lost some of my finger. In conclusion, meditation is a great experience but should be practiced in a safe environment.

KIDS DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME 😉

Meditation Reflection

I. I chose Guided Meditation: Mindfulness of Breathing

II. A. 24 hours before the meditation I was experiencing moods including: Ecstatic, Confident, Happy, Hopeful, Lovestruck, and Anxious

B.  On a scale of 1 to 10, before the meditation my level of anxiety was at a 6

C.  On a scale of 1 to 10, before the meditation my level of physical tension in my body was a 8, I could feel the tension in my lower back and lower stomach area.

III. A. After the meditation I was experiencing moods including: Exhausted, Confident, Happy, Hopeful, and Lovestruck

B.  On a scale of 1 to 10, after the meditation my level of anxiety was at a 4

C.  On a scale of 1 to 10, after the meditation my level of physical tension in my body was a 5 and I could feel it in my chest

IV. I chose the Guided Meditation: Mindfulness of Breathing. During the meditation I was experiencing a feeling of nervousness, although I don’t exactly know why.  My stomach felt heavy and my body felt as if it was getting hotter. My fingers felt tingly, and my I could feel my pulse going through them. My mind felt calm and light, although many thoughts were coming in during the beginning. The thoughts that were coming in during the beginning include thoughts of hope and excitement for things during the school break. It was a little challenging to suppress the thoughts, but throughout the meditation I eventually moved to a feeling of not caring about anything and just focusing on what was going on in my body. Immediately after realizing I had a feeling of not caring about anything, I started to think about all the things I do care about. I would try this again in the future, it definitely helped me relax and relieve the tension on my body. I also think in the future it might even be more effective because I had a lot on my mind when I was doing this one.

Meditation Reflection

I. Choosing the meditation

I chose Guided Body Scan by Gil Fronsdal

II. Before the meditation
A. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

I was mostly frustrated and overwhelmed throughout the day. I was definitely feeling anxious about all my work.

B. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

My overall anxiety level was probably a 10.

C. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

I notice the tension around my chest. I would rate my overall tension about an 8.

III. After the meditation
A. Reassess your mood on the chart.

I’m still a little anxious, but I’m also feeling a bit hopeful.

B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10.

My level of anxiety is now an 8

C. Reassess your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10.

My Physical Tension is now a 7.

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

My meditation was the Guided Body Scan by Gil Fronsdal. It involved focusing my attention on all the part of my body and move from my head to my toes, focusing on each body part. At some times during the meditation I felt more relaxed and I started to fell less tension in my body, but other times I just had a hard time blocking out my previous feeling of worry and anxiety. Overall it was a worthwhile experience, and I felt some of its effects even if it didn’t completely relax me. I would definitely try it again in the future. I think it might work better if I wasn’t so preoccupied with other thoughts.

Before you begin your meditation, we ask you assess and take notes on your own state of mind during the 24 hour period leading up to the meditation.

  1. First, take note of the moods you’ve experienced.

Twenty four hours before my meditation, I started out exhausted and overwhelmed waking up having to go to school. As the day progressed I became bored and towards the end of the night I was happy.

Here is a chart to help you:

  1. Assess your overall level of anxiety on a scale of 1 to 10.

I would say the anxiety level would be on a 3 or 4.

  1. Assess the level of physical tension in your body- where do you notice the tension? Try rating your overall tension on a scale of 1 to 10.

I notice the tension in my legs and shoulders with a rating of 4.

III. After you have finished your meditation, re-asses your state of mind and body.
A. Reassess your mood on the chart. (I felt more relaxed, less stressed out)
B. Reassess your level of anxiety from 1 to 10. (I would say between 0-2)
C. Reassess your level of physical tension and rate it from 1 to 10. (I would rate it between 1-2)

IV. Describe the experience– What type of meditation did you choose? Describe what was going on in your mind and your body, what kind of thoughts and sensations did you experience during the meditation? Were there any challenging or frustrating aspects of the experience, and if so, what were they? Would you try this again in the future? Why or why not?

I chose the guided meditation, by Mark Abramson. I was paying attention to the air I was breathing it. I was able to feel it and experience it as it flows in and out of my nose. I am able to hear my heart pump and it feels a lot slower. The only thing challenge that I found is my neighborhood. Being that I live near the bridge I can hear a lot of cars passing by. I also hear a lot of people from the bars screaming and fighting. It really disrupts the meditation process. I would definitely try this meditation again in the future. I usually just watch some comedy and laugh until I feel better.

Meditation Reflection !

I. I chose to do the Guided Body Scan by Gil Fronsdal.

II. A. I was feeling a little frustrated and overwhelmed today. I had my wisdom tooth pulled out yesterday and I couldn’t eat any solid foods. I didn’t want to take a day off from work because the holiday season is coming around and I need money to shop.

B. I would say my level of anxiety today was between a 6-7.

C. Most of the tension was around my neck and back.  I would judge it to be around 7.

III.  A. After  the meditation, I felt more relaxed. The pain in my mouth was still there but my overall mood was much better.

B. I would judge my level of anxiety to have dropped to around a 3 or 4 after meditation.

C. The meditation also helped me to feel more physically relaxed. The tension around my neck and back area was a lot more relieved. I would rate it a 5 on the scale.

IV. I chose the body scan experience by Gil Fronsdal. In my  mind, I doubted that this would do any good since most of my stress resulted from getting my wisdom tooth being extracted. During the beginning of the recording, I kept thinking “this isn’t going to work”. But as the recording went on, I started to slowly let go of that thought and concentrate on the meditation. I listened to Fronsdal and I could feel my body and my mind relaxing. I would definitely do this again because it is a great way to relieve stress especially with finals coming up and all.

Memory

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

I would start by being with my family because they are the people who took care of me since I was born. I have spent most of my time with them and they are able to help me recollect my past. Going through albums, family photos, or even talking about past events that were fun. I would even go to the places that I liked the most. Then I would talk to friends who are really close.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

At first it would be tough because I would be unaware of the situation and repeatedly remember the accident that had happened. I probably would have insomnia because of the stress of trying to remember something that is not even there. Once I know I have support from friends and family I would feel better trying to remember something without being afraid. If I do get my memories back completely I would probably cry tears of joy.

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

I would want to remember happy memories because it is a drive that would help me move on with my life. Remembering the good times makes we want to do more with what I have now. Happy memories lead to recollections of more detailed information that was lost. Recalling other types of memories are also good in it’s own way but remembering something that was made to last and comfort is needed when one has retrograde amnesia.

Memory

If I were to lose my memory i’m sure I would go into a panic. If someone was to forget who they were, how they got to where they are right now, and couldnt remember anything I dont think anyone wouldn’t. I hope if something like this happens I would tell myself to remain calm and search my pockets. Inside I would hopefully find my wallet which contains my ID and my phone with all my friends and family members numbers. Assuming I havent forgotten my native language (as Mom and Dad are not written in english) I would call them first and ask them for help.

I’m sure it would be weird talking to people I dont even remember I would probably be really anxious to see them and be hopeing that everything was gonna be okay. Im sure they would try to tell me everything about me in a rush and it would just fly right by me. I wouldnt be able to concentrate on anything when I dont know anyone or anything. I would ask them simple things like what I do, and where do I go. I would slowly try to remember their names and my brothers name. After that I would probably check my text messages for who I text most, as they are probably my closest friends. Ask them about myself and what we do. Fun memories we had together.
If I had a choice to recover only certain memories I would change nothing. Having a clean slate is nice and all but if you are happy with who you are today, then that is who you are. Even if they are painful or embarressing memories of our past knowing them shaped us to be who we are. Something someone told me that I would never forget was (Maybe if I had amnesia) “Do you like the person you are? Then be happy for all the things that happened to you”

Memory

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

First of all, I would follow the medication step by step to try to recover the leaked memory before the accident. Second I would find help and support from my family because no one knows more about my life as they do. Also I would try to find information by consulting with friends, photos or any kind of material that could remind me any event of my life before the accident.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

It would be a very difficult time for me, honestly I do not know how to face or react to that kind of situation, however, I would be forced to find the way to rebuild my past life.

If I could pick or choose the memories of my life, definitely  I could choose positive memories that make me feel happy and confident. Memories that make me think of my family or friends in order avoid the negative aspects that one accident like this can produce.

Memory

First of all to begin the process I would go spend time with my family and friends. Trying to remember who they are and some memory we had. Then go back to old place I had a memory with them at such as school home and hangout spots. Then I will go visit place that a impact or that gave me a good time. Trying to put all the memory together. Also if there are pictures I would try to go through it and try to see if I can get any memories from it.

During the time I was trying to get all my memory back. I felt very tired cause there was so much things happen in my mind. Trying to force myself to get all my memory back. I should have to my time and ease into all the events and people in my life. After a while through the process I felt more happy because I was able to get memory and back that helps motivate me to continue and strive harder to try to get all the memory back. Although the process was very stressful because I wanted all the memory back eventually when I felt the the process is working it decrease my stress.

If I was able to choose which memory I can remember I will choose all my memory. I would choose all my memory because things happen in life not matter its happy, sad or hard it help shape the person of who I am. So without some of those memory or event that impacted me it might change the person of who I am. Also I will choose all the memory because a person must go through everything life no matter its positive or negative memory it still created a memory for me.

Memory

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

The process of recovering my memory I would choose to entrust and start with professional therapist that has experience in recovering memory. I consider it to be complex and delicate process that must be taken seriously and attentively. After initial phase, I would include my family and friends as people who know me the best and are present in my life the most. Their knowledge and, most certainly, being part of my memories would be the most important part of the recovery process. I think that our joint efforts with supervision of a professional would have desired positive results.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

I think I would be feeling quite overwhelmed recovering bits and pieces of my life. I think it would be overwhelming for anyone. I imagine I would feel diverse emotions: happiness, sorrow, and fear, anxiety-depending on good or bad things that happened to me during my life. However, every feeling is significant and needed for us to experience so that we have foundation and knowledge of it for shaping our future emotional states and response to situations.

Every our memory is part of us and helped us shape into who we are today. If I could choose to discard or edit some memories, I would not do it, because no matter whether is it a happy occasion or some unfortunate thing, it is what I am made of. I understand that some experiences can be very grave and difficult to bear and cope with, so I wouldn`t judge those who would choose different. Anyway, I am fond of every my memory as they help me recall joyous occasion when I`m sad, or remind me of a valuable lesson previously learned. So I would definitely keep all of them.

memory

1.How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

I want to recovering my memory from the accident and following step by step to recovering from that point to early childhood. I think the memory close to the accident is important for me. I can finger out my world, and easy to enter into my normal life. I will try to ask my friends and my parents. They will show me part of my memory and I may try to find my pictures, videos and other paper material. I also can check my computer, facebook and so on.

2.Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

I must feel afraid, my parents and my friends are see me at hospital. But I don’t know any of them.  It must be lonely at that time. I must trust some of them, and have to finger out who is the one that I can trust.

3.Suppose you were able to pick and choose the memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened, etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

I want remembered all the memories, because that is my life; I should know all of them. Memories will be disorder when I lost some part of them. Even though some the memories are painful and negative to me. I want all of them, that is the part of my life. life includ happy and unhappy, then the life will be intact.

monologue

I don’t know what I want to be when I get older. That is one of the thing that I am scared and unsure about. All my friends already know what they want to become, but I still don’t know. When I was younger I dreamed of becoming a professional ice-skater, a singer, a teacher, and a pastry chef I want to become something that will keep me interested in, and something that I would have fun doing for the rest of my life. Hopefully I find out soon.

OH HI!

My name is Dzemo Halilovic. The “Dz” makes a “Jay” sound, making the pronunciation of my name “Jaymo”. I was born in Bosnia and moved to Germany with my family when I turned 2years old due to the war. I basically grew up in Germany and moved to the states when I turned 10. The last 4 years of my life have consisted of being in the photography/cinema industry and I love EVERY SECOND of it! However, I am also a full time student here in Baruch as a finance major. Always wanted a job in finance, but lately I’m leaning towards the photography industry. I’m currently a junior and will continue with my major just to have a something to fall back on in case of an emergency.

I’m currently taking physiology because its mandatory for my major, but I find my self to truly enjoy it. I loved the video posted on blackboard about the woman that experienced a stroke.

Otherwise, I love everything that relates with wheels and gears! From bicycles to cars! One of my favorite websites is www.canibeat.com and www.vwvortex.com

Thanks for checking out my blog post,
Feel free to check out my website www.photodh.com

Ohi there!

Hey everybody! My name’s Ardita, and I’m a sophomore. 🙂 I was born in Brooklyn, but I now live on Staten Island (for the past 6 years, about). I actually have a few interests and hobbies, such as playing video games (League of Legends, Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, S4 League, and a few more), watching anime (of most sorts), sketching every once in a while, reading fantasy novels/stories, and listening to music.

Psychology is not my intended major, but it is my intended minor. My favorite classes thus far have been Japanese, English, and Music. I sort of belong to both the Japanese Anime Asylum as well as the Baruch Taekwondo Club, but I haven’t had much time to attending their club activities as of recent.

My youtube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/DitaMeow/, reflects the kind of things that I like and am interested in. And yes, I have quite a silly account name.

I hope everyone has a great time in our psychology class! 😀

Recovering Memories

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

If I lost all my memories one day, obviously the first thing is to find out who I really am. I will turn to my family first because they have the best understanding of me. I may go to the place that I have been living with them and listen to them how I have grown since a child until now and. Hopefully, the house that I am live in, my bedroom, may give me a lot of image flashes in my mind or the pictures on the desk can help me to identify who I really am. Friends who really care me probably will come to visit me after they hear what has happened to me and they may provide a lot helps for my memories recovering. They can tell me how I have acted when I am chilling with them and bring me to some places where I have always visited. Since I am still a student, I will also want to walk into my school and try to find any memory back from there. I will quietly listen to every sentence that people have told me about my pass and look around every place I have gone carefully and combine them to find out how I have been living before.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

During the first few days after I lost my memoires, definitely I will be very scared and nervous with a pure strange world in front of my eyes. I may not even recognize my parents, my family and my best friends but I believe I will be very relieved to the first nice person I met after I lost my memories. Second step, after I verify the people who are really important in my life, such as my family and friends, I will trust and start to be curious about what kind of person I am before I lost my memories. Obviously, people around me will want my memories to be recovered therefore they will try very hard to help me. They may be very happy when they see a little signal of my memory recovering but also may be very disappointed if this is just an illusion; and I will be very depressed and upset for disappointed them. I may feel lost when I am standing in a place where I used to come a lot but not feeling familiar any more right now; and also I may be very sensitive and panic when a person who I should of know suddenly come to say hello to me on the street when I cannot recall who that person really is. However, after I can finally catch a little bit of memories flashes in my mind about my pass, I will feel so excited and hopeful for my memory recovering.

I won’t want to lose any memory from my pass, no matter it is positive or negative, painful or cheerful, and I will want it all back. To me, anything that has happened in pass is a fact, an experience and also an evidence for proving what situation I have been through in this world. Some people may rather forget about some negative or painful memories which they wish they will never recall, however I think once a thing become a memory then most effects it brings are positive. Failure memories help us to get succeed on the next time; painful memories indicate such a harsh thing has happened in our life; and obviously happy memories should never be forgot. Therefore, I will not pick the memories I wanted to recover but just all of them

Regaining the memory I lost…

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to,where would you search, and how would you proceed?

I would being to recover my memory by going to all the places I enjoyed going to. I would visit my school, favorite parks, and favorite restaurants. I would go anywhere that would have some percent of possibility of sparking some form of memory. I would turn to my family because they know me the best; they will know where to take me, what to say to me, and what to show me to gain my memory back as fast as possible.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

I think it would be a very emotional journey. I would be experiencing all the memories all over again and at a much higher intensity. I would realize how precious each of those memories actually are. The emotional journey would be hard to explain to anyone who has not experienced it. The fact that the path one must take to regain every memory since birth is very difficult makes me quite emotional. I think it would be definitely be worth it to have all my wonderful memories back and be able to remember. The journey will help me realize that memories are truly amazing things.

I would choose all the happy, exciting, and positive memories, definitely. However, I would also choose a couple of painful and angry memories to show that I did go through a bit of difficult time, but I was able to overcome it all. It would be nice to only think about good things, but I think I wouldn’t be able to contain any of the negative emotions if they overcame me. I think because I have painful, angry, and negative memories, I am able to control those specific emotions and know when to show them and when to not show them. The happy memories are a definite choice because who wouldn’t want remember every single happy moment they had? Happy memories make you happy when the memories are being made and when they are remembered. They are just amazing memories.

Research Reflection: Sleep and Stress

  • What area of interest/research question do you wish to explore through a research study design? How does sleep correlate to stress?
  • What variables or concepts are you looking to observe and/or manipulate? the amount of time spent sleeping every night and the levels of stress experienced throughout the day
  • What type of design would best suit your research question? (Experimental, Correlational, etc) experimental
  • What research method would you use to conduct your experiment? (Survey, case study, naturalistic observation, lab experiment, etc.) Naturalistic observation
  • If applicable, what would you put as your independent and dependent variables? independent variable: hours of sleep. dependent variable: stress level
  • Give a hypothesis about what you think you might find. as the amount of hours gets closer to the recommended amount of sleep, there will be a decrease in stress experienced throughout the day.
  • What might be the benefits and implications of this study? In other words, who would gain from it? people who live routine lives that would like to decrease stress levels
  • Please reflect on the process of designing this experiment. What were the challenges you faced? Was this more/less difficult than you expected? How? the challenges that come up are the fact that people who have different jobs experience different stress levels, therefore this experiment may have to restricted to one certain profession. this was more difficult than expected because stress is hard to measure and what may be stressful for one person, may not be for someone else.

Research:Is there a correlation between sleep and mood?

I would want to do an experiment to test out whether there is a correlation between sleep and mood. So does the amount of sleep that a person gets affect his/her emotions? In order to carry out this experiment, I would need 2 groups of randomized participants with similar occupations and work schedules. One group would be the group that gets at least 8 hours of sleep per day for 1 week, while the other group would only get no more than 5 hours of sleep per day for 1 week. To do this experiment, I would need the participants from both groups to keep a journal on the exact amount of hours of sleep they get each day for the week and also their mood on that following day. The amount of sleep hours would be the independent variable and the participant’s mood would be the dependent variable. After a week, I would read the journals of all the participants in both groups and record the results. Then, I would compare the results and try to draw a conclusion based on the results. I believe that the group that gets at least 8 hours of sleep each day will be happier than the group that gets no more than 5 hours of sleep per day. Lack of sleep often make people frustrated and moody. The result of this experiment would be great evidence for parents to use to advice their children to sleep earlier at night. It would be beneficial for a lot of young adults because the result would let them understand the importance of having enough hours of sleep at night. The difficulty of designing this experiment is to think of how to keep away the confounding variables from affecting the results of my experiment. People with different jobs or school workloads might have different mood to begin with and I would not be able to distinguish the effect of sleep on mood from the participants’ personal issues from their everyday life, hence in order to lower the effect of the confounding variables on the results of my experiment, my selected participants are people with the same occupations and work schedules.

Starting Over

Something like these happens quite often in modern day world. Not necessarily the scenario given by the Professors/TAs but the retrograde amnesia etc. It’s something different for everyone; I hope nothing like this ever occur to you but if it does you can always look back at this and laugh. Maybe.

“In this case, imagine this accident has caused you to forget all your explicit memories from childhood up until you were struck by the falling object.Luckily, a medication has been developed to help you recover your memories, but it’s up to you to guide the recovery process.”

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

Progress begins with taking a step forward in this case partaking the the medication is the first step. For my memories it would begin with the things, people and attitude of experience. Photo graphs, personal written work from anything left behind, videos with any hint of me in it. Going through all of that would be long and hard emotionally so not too much at once. Maybe do them chronically, writing down questions that come up, the what, when, hows etc.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

Frustration would be the first thing that comes to mind. I’m not an impatient person per say but the lack of knowing would probably drive me to be more snappish. Day after day of not knowing what happened but knowing I lost it due to a brick of all things. Things everyone seem to know about me that doesn’t feel like me. The pressure would be immense. Nobody takes change well and something like this is big so all that know me would be trying to help or whatever they can to that they feel would benefit in the process.

It would feel overwhelming. Would I lose everything I know now if I got my memories back?

I won’t edit and pick even if I could choose the memories. Each memory is precious and something is always gotten from one. Oh I feel asleep in that class. I miss the deadline on that paper. All make me, me. I like looking back at the things I’ve done, actions I’ve taken years ago, months ago, days ago, even hours ago. Some of them I don’t like (eating a whole bag of seaweed;they taste so good though) and some I love to bits (feeling the little bit of wonderful fresh air; by fresh I mean fresh. fresh doesn’t equal city air).

There are even quite a few embarrassing moments I would love to forget but it’s what makes them all the more worth remembering. Reflect on those a bit when I start feeling the moment occurring again. I don’t have anything I feel heartbreaking enough to really want to forget yet so I won’t touch that.  Altogether I love by memories so in anyway what so ever would I choose to forget them. Don’t exactly want to remember them in minute  detail either though.

Whats up class?

Hi everybody, my name is Anton! Its really nice to cyber-meet all of you. I am a freshman here at Baruch  but i really like it so far. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine but came here when i was 10 years old, so for the most part i was raised here in Brooklyn, NY. Even though psychology is not my intended major i always wanted to take psych when i was in high school but i never got a chance to do so, so here I am liking this class so far. I hope other people out there find it interesting also. As for my hobbies i do or did a few things but currently i’m focusing more on swimming on Baruch swim team and continuing practicing shotokan karate (which i have been doing for 8 years now). So yeah, great to meet all of you!

Who am I? Recovering from retrograde amnesia

1. How would you begin the process of recovering your memory? Who would you turn to, where would you search, and how would you proceed?

I would first start off by trying to remember as far back as I could, which probably wouldn’t get me too far in trying to recover my recollections prior to the accident. I would then reach out to my parents and grandparents and have them tell me who I am starting with my childhood and so forth by using photo albums and things I have. I would also look through my laptop and phone as a guide to see what I was up to as of recently. Finally I would get in touch with my closest friends but more likely they would get in touch with me first and would do as I did with my parents by having them tell me about myself and who I was as a person with the kinds of relationships I had with them and others.

2. Please describe the emotional journey you imagine you would be going through as you attempt to reconstruct your life. Imagine the feelings you would have.

This would have to be the most difficult and most frustrating part of the whole ordeal. I don’t think I would be able to attend school or do much with my life for a while until I recovered all if not most of my memories before the accident. I probably wouldn’t be able to sleep normally and would be afraid of maintaining my relationships with people. My life would be as scary and depressing as I could possibly imagine it to be.

3. Suppose you were able to pick and choose the
memories you wanted to recover from your life. What types of memories would you
choose to retain and what types of memories might you decide to edit out of your
remembered experience? Positive, negative, painful, happy, angry, frightened,
etc. Please elaborate and explain some your decision making process.

I would choose them all, that’s what defines me as a person. I think all the positive memories along with the negative makes you a solid and strong individual. If one of those memories are missing from me then I would probably be a different person from who I am today. I look at it like a butterfly effect combined with a behavioral cusp that Makes an individual who he is with all those aspects of his feelings and experiences combined.

would the students who use the laptop in class have a better chance of achieving a better grade?

my research will be on the who use the laptop in class, does the student who use laptop will have the better grade than other. My research will focus on one variable which is grade. Experimental will fit my research the best. My  independent variables will be using laptop or not and dependent variables will be grade. My hypothesis will be the students who are using the laptop in class will have the lower grade than the students who didn’t because I think that they will get attracted by their laptop. From this experiment we can learn and to known that either should we bring the laptop to class or not. the difficulty of my experiment will be some of the student using their laptop playing game or surf web. but some using it to actually learning stuff. so if people who use it in right way might come out with different result.

xin chao moi nguoi :))

These above strange word is a welcome greeting in Vietnamese:D. It simply means Hi everybody:)).

My name is Trang. I’m from Vietnam, and have been in USA for 2 years and been in NY for 1 year. My first year in NY is a little bit struggling. I have to get used to my new busy style in NY, studying 18 credits per semester, working 4 days a week. Then, it turns out nothing was on a right track sometimes. Grade lowed down, working inefficiently:(. There was no time for activity in school, or meeting, chatting… I realized that each person has his/ her own strength. I cant do many things well at the same time. (some pple can). It’s fine. I should not force my self too much. Focus on one thing, and do my best of it. This semester, I feel a little better. Sometimes, I have to retain my self from money’s fascination:)) and to know what is more important for me now.

I love this class so far. It’s actual knowledge that I could easier imagine and put in my mind. Nice to share a little bit here:) hope u guys all do well and have great year ahead!!!!!!!!!!!
