Professor León and LTS/ANT/SOC 3021 hosted a special screening of “Los Guardianes Del Maiz” (“The Keepers of the Corn”) for a Q&A with Producers Yira Vallejo and Johnathan Barbieri. The documentary served as a testament to both the fragility and tenaciousness of traditional farming cultures while showcasing the efforts of indigenous farmers in Oaxaca to conserve native maize in the face of an uncertain future. Viewers came away with a deeper understanding of the crucial role of small, local farmers in protecting Oaxaca’s extraordinary biodiversity.
