Rita Berti:
Italy brings Rita Beri to America in 1953 to preform in Vaudeville productions both plays and musicals. She was featured in Gennaro and Vincent Cardenia’s Festival del Teatro Mediterraneo diĀ Napoli(The Festival of the Mediterranean Theatre of Naples) on Sunday, April 5th 1964, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She Preformed in a popular play called Tutta Colpa e da Famiglia( It’s All the Fault of the Family) The Themes of generational conflict, struggles within the family, and children lost and discovered structures of 19th century bourgeois drama and also melodrama which prevailed on Italian American Stages of the early 20th Century.
Marietta Maiori and Attilio Giovanelli:
Both distinguished violinist and concert master, were married October 7, 1916. They were both determined that their family should have a normal life, despite their own careers in theatre. Their daughters Olga and Adele, remembered that their parents never encouraged their children to enter theater profession an that Marrieta always made sure that her family needs prevailed, regardless of her theatrical responsibilities. Eduaro Migliaccio:
One of the most popular entertainers of the Cafe Concertto genre, whose stage name was Farfariello. Migliaccio was born April 15, 1882, at Cava Dei Terreni, province of Salerno. He attended the Istituto di Belle Arti, in Naples where he studied Design and Plastic Art. These skills served him well years later when he embarked on a theatrical career. In Naples, he also attended the Teatro Nuovo, where he observed the Neopolitn macchiettista(impressionist) Nicolo Maldacea, who was the model for the later comic style of Farfariello. In 1897, Migliaccio emigrated from Italy to join his father in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, but eventually made his way to New York City.
Mario Badolati:
Born in Italy, Mario Badolati of the Teatro D Arte and brother of Luigi, was an actor and directed his own stage company and radio program called La Compagnia La Perla (The Pearl Company) on station WOv. In 1944, he produced stage shows at the brooklyn Academy of music and wrote lyrics for songs. It was told that he was quite the dresser and insisted the same from his actors. He also played on the American radio soaps, Stella Dalls and Margie.
Licia Albanese
Licia Albanese, another diva of the Metropolitan Opera, peformed with the Barbatos and their company. In Addition to her appearances at the Met and her concert tours, she also sang on the radio. Arturo Toscanini selected her to be the soprano star for his Annual Gala operatic broadcast. She recorded on Victor Records. Today, she heads the Puccini Foundation and is a well respect Italian Artist of the her generation.
