Making my resume and cover letter for the position of Associate Banker at JPMorgan Chase was an unique experience because it allowed me to realize the value of communication and strategic planning for my future. I began with the project by reviewing the job description, identifying the key components of qualifications such as customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to build strong relationships. Then, I revise my resume to make it more compatible with the job requirements by highlighting my experience such as customer-facing, emphasizing the moments where I demonstrated creative problem-solving skills, professionalism, and teamwork.
In my cover letter, I focused on aligning my values with the company’s goals. I look over to JPMorgan Chase’s commitment to financial services and community engagement, and describe how my own values align with theirs. This allows me to achieve the purpose of helping people feel confident in managing their finances. I also make sure to use languages that mirror the tone of the company’s job listing, which are confident, people-centered, and results-oriented.
One of the most important lessons that I learned from this project is that a generic resume is not effective for companies. Employers often look for people who are not only are meeting the requirements, but also understanding the company’s culture and purposes. I also learned the importance of visual layout and clarity in making a resume easy to read will be a better demonstration of myself.
These processes helped me reflect on my strengths and experiences in a more direct way. It gave me more confidence in presenting myself professionally and taught me how to change my application materials for different roles and industries in the future.
