I thoroughly enjoyed reading Snowfall because of the use of multimedia throughout made it more personal and detailed. The photos and videos made it possible to see the exact conditions that John Branch wrote about in detail, which shows why multimedia reporting is incredibly crucial and impactful because words can only be so descriptive while photos and videos show everything else. For example, the reader can easily create a picture in their mind just by reading the first paragraph: “It is a term with broad meaning. The name is derived from the Cascade Tunnel, originally a 2.6-mile railroad tube completed in 1900 that connected the east and west sides of the Cascades, a boon for the growth of Seattle and Puget Sound. The mountain pass that it burrowed beneath was named for the project’s engineer, John Frank Stevens, who later helped build the Panama Canal.” However, every reader has a different image in their head while reading this, so the inclusion of the photos of the avalanche make this piece that much more compelling.
