Going against most predictions, the MTA decided not to increase the base fare for a single bus or subway ride from $2.75 to $3. However, the decision did not carry over into the weekly and month MetroCards. On March 19th, the fare hike took effect and New Yorkers spoke on how the increase would financially burden them.
