From the second I opened this article, I was immediately drawn in by the moving image in the background. As I scrolled downward slowly, the background started to disappear as I got deeper into the story, eventually disappearing. I believe that was an excellent way to transition into the article. The article began to drag on just a bit and then they put a strong video to control our attention. This was personally my favorite part of the article. It was my favorite part of the article because of the way she told her story. I believe the producers of this article chose the perfect piece of media to retain our attention and to keep us scrolling down the article to find out more. I believe the slideshow towards the end of the article was an excellent choice of pictures. The pictures in the slideshow spoke for themselves but they were accompanied by small descriptions that did not take attention away from the photographs.
I believe the multimedia was effective in this article as, for a rather longer article, held my attention and I found myself wanting to see what was next. It was successful in providing us with an entertaining piece, fully telling the story.
One idea of a potential story that could use this type of formatting could be our next assignment, the current protests. The initial background could include a strong picture from the protests that grabs the reader’s attention. An interview with a politician or even an average protestor talking about their experiences would fit in well with this formatting. Also, a map of the protests showing where they have occurred over time would fit perfect at the end of the article. This formatting could accommodate almost any story. With a strong visual presence, this format required an excellent eye for picking out strong images and other multimedia content to complement the article and story effectively.
