Before I actually started to read the article, I was amazed by the snowy mountain GIF in the background. The article interested me in that it wasn’t a typical news article; instead, it was a story with a narrative structure and chapters. I was intrigued by the story, and I found myself pulled into how thrilling, yet tragic, it was. The article uses multimedia effectively, ranging from background images to videos to maps. Each of these works well to transition to the next chapter of the story, as it helps the story flow. The snowy mountain used on the top works well to introduce the story; the video helps show how traumatizing the event was for Elyse Saugstad, who was interviewed in the video.
This method of multimedia can work well to showcase other traumatic or disastrous experiences. One of the articles I had to find for Wednesday Feb 1st’s class had a similar format to this, where it showcased the results of President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines having people killed for possessing drugs, and many people dead, which was seen when you scroll down the article.
