How The Presidential Results Affected The Marginalized Community

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters,”

These are some of the few comments Donald Trump made in his presidential campaign speeches, which certainly have not been very encouraging for the marginalized community . According to migrationpolicy.org   there were   42.4 million of immigrants who lived in the United States in 2014 , we can assume that the number has slightly grown .

The impact that the presidential result has had upon the marginalized community has not been taken well .  The elected president has proposed to take away certain programs such as DACA which stands for Differed Action for Childhood Arrivals , DAPA which stands for Differed Action for parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent residents and Lastly FMLA which is The Family and Medical leave act. Programs like DACA and DAPA have helped millions of immigrants to afford a better quality in life and being next to their loved ones while pursuing a better quality in their life’s .

The Family and Medical leave act is a program that entitles employees of covered employers to take unpaid leave , either for a family member that might need that extra attention or for medical reasons. This has helped family who struggle to balance both work and life matters , and this is valuable to take so they can pick themselves up from the current situation they are in and getting prepared to come back to the work force . This program is also being affected since its something on Donald Trumps list for shutting it down .

DACA however is the one I feel, has been affected the most since the members of this program are students trying to afford a better quality of living and offer themselves and their families a better future.  The Differed Action for Childhood Arrivals first became official back in 2012 , its for those undocumented immigrants who enter the United States as minors and this program allows them if certain guidelines are met, to be entitled to receive a work permit for two years and be protected from being deported. Needless to say this program has improved many life’s , prior to its existence, undocumented immigrants where living in the shadows and just hoping for the possibility of a better outcome. Statistics show 45% of the average wage increased after DACA was set into motion , 69% of those undocumented individuals received a better pay leading to a better quality of life and 92% pursued educational opportunities they never thought they might be able to, all because of the DACA program.

Ever since America found out about the results in regards to the elect president , people have been living with fear . It astonishing how the marginalized communities have come together to be heard , and understood. Anyone coming to this “Land of opportunity” is to accomplish dreams that they think they would not be able to fulfill wherever they are coming from . What once was hope for these marginalized communities, know resembles Fear , Fear of the unknown of the uncertainty of their futures and not knowing what to expect .

Throughout my blog my intention was to inform that this is a real issue within the marginalized community.

However  ,  I had the wonderful opportunity of interviewing an undocumented student Himself and listening to his input on this situation  is emotional and nevertheless impressing.  To see how programs who seem to not be “fit” for  North America according to Trump ,  they offer endless opportunities to undocumented students such as Ricardo Aca , currently attending Baruch College . To learn a little bit more about Ricardo’s input click on his picture above to know him a more.
