About Me

Hi there! My name is Karin Filipova and I am currently a Junior at Macaulay-Baruch. I am pursuing a major in Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, and I am also working towards minors in Business Analysis, NYC Studies, and Business Law.

I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, but I was raised in Queens, New York. I feel that my background has aided me in a multitude of ways, and I can say with certainty that I would not be on the career path I am now had I not seen my immigrant parents struggle to make it in a new country.

I currently intern at a non-profit organization called The Borgen Project where I work with members of Congress to pass laws that aim to reduce global poverty. During my time at The Borgen Project, I worked as a writer for BORGEN Magazine before being promoted to a publisher. I also create social media content in efforts to fundraise and spread awareness about the importance of lowering the global poverty level.

After having been a private tutor for the last five years, I finally opened up my own tutoring business in the Fall of 2020. This idea had been a long time coming, and I fully planned to start it well after graduating, however, the Covid-19 pandemic pushed me to realize that I had to take advantage of every opportunity I could.

In my free time, I love to go on adventures with my friends. One of my favorite places to visit in the city is The Strand, where I could get lost for hours in their Rare Book Room. I also love collecting old Jazz records, playing guitar, and spending time with my family.
