I think my first semester has gone good so far, although I wish I had been able to choose my classes, so I wouldn’t be one of the few of my friends that has classes 5 days a week. If I could go back, I would have gone to an earlier orientation so I would not be stuck with a block that no one has.
But so far I have enjoyed college because although some of the work is hard, I have been doing it more consistently than in high school. In high school, homework comprised mostly of small trivial assignments that I would blow off because I saw them as a waste of time.
My college experience has been quite the opposite. There are a bit fewer but much harder assignments, and I do not view most of them as a waste of time. This is because that for most of the papers I must write, common or prior knowledge is not enough, and therefore I find myself having to do lots of research. Granted this takes more effort than just writing something off of the top of your head, but it is the research that makes you learn new things. I often find myself researching more than I have to, just because my interest has been sparked in the topic at hand.
In general I feel like college has pushed me to become more independent. You are responsible for many more things, but it can be frustrating at times. Just a couple of hours ago I found out that I have a stop put on my spring registration because of missing proof of my graduation form high school. I even have the official transcript on me but they would not accept it because it is not in a sealed envelope. That’s college.
