Tech Rivals Lay Down Arms for Youth Coding

On October 14th, 2013 four tech giants, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Apple, put aside their difference to support a new initiative known as the “Hour of Code.” The plan is to promote computer programming among K-12 students through the use of code.org. This relatively new nonprofit organization, now with the support of tech giants, offers free ways to learn programming. The guiding idea is that technology is so pervasive in the world that it becomes imperative to understand how it functions on some level. The goal is to one day make computer programming a staple in the American educational system.
