Hello world!

King Lear is a unique work of Shakespeare’s in which Lear struggles with understanding love. Wisecrack’s Thug Notes perfectly exemplifies this in an interesting, relatable way.

An amazing lesson and takeaway from King Lear is through the idea of having self-worth and understanding when someone’s actions, not words, show their true love for you. In the video it’s stated that Lear “end up giving it all to Goneril and Regan- da two daughters who jus’ give him a royal ass-kissing; leaving Cordelia, da only daughter who keep it real, with jack shit.” At this point King Lear can’t fathom that without professing it, his daughter Cordelia could love him more than Goneril or Regan.  However, before even addressing the issue of understanding that Goneril and Regan were sucking up to him, Lear should’ve addressed the fact that dividing his kingdom based on which daughter loves him the most. The core of this issue is his own self-love. If King Lear could learn to have profound love for himself he wouldn’t need the affirmation he requires from his daughters.
