Journal #3

Doing the community service project has really pushed me to take full advantage of the resources that are being provided to me here at Baruch and to get more involved on campus. As of recent, I visited the writing center and had a research consultation with a librarian. I used these resources to help me write my final research paper for my writing class. I can honestly say that these two resources have helped me improve my writing and researching abilities and have made my life as a student way easier. I have also gotten involved within the student community by becoming a member of T.E. A. M Baruch, a leader program within the college. I am very excited to continue to meet new people within this program. I think that being a part of a program like this will help me to improve my communication and leadership skills and also help me expand my own community here at Baruch.

For me, doing this project, really stressed the importance of not only helping out my immediate community, but also helping those in need who I may not directly encounter everyday. While it is good to help out my peers and my school, I shouldn’t forget that my community outreach initiatives should not stop outside of Baruch’s campus and that there is need all over this city. As a baruch scholar, it is my responsibility to be a contributor to the solution and to not ignore this problem.

Where do I see myself in 3 years? Hopefully, graduating. I came into college with a set vision of what I wanted my future to look like, but after gaining more experience, learning more about all of the possible career paths I could take, and getting to know my own self a little bit more, that vision has changed and has become much less clear. Therefore, I don’t really know where I will be in 3 years. However, I do hope that in 3 years I hold some type of leadership position that allows me to mentor my peers and those around me. I also hope that by then, I will have found a career path that fulfills me and my goals.

  1. The writing center really helped me improve in my English class so it’s nice to hear that you also benefited from their consultations. I think it’s really great that your set vision of the future has changed. I’ve found that adapting to new experiences and being open to different possibilities are oftentimes good things, and taking the time to explore different paths will help you better understand what you really want to pursue professionally.

  2. First off, I love your blog background!! Anyway, I agree with how college has kind of shifted my focus. I initially intended to major in International Business but after this semester I really think I would rather major in Public Affairs. I’ve attributed this to things I’ve learned about myself during my process of starting Lexington Music as well as through the classes I’ve taken so far.
