My previous experience with the lion dance and Chinese New Years

Each year growing up when it was Chinese New Year my family would bring my brother and I to every lion dance parade. Every time I hear the lion dance music it always brings back memories from my past. I’m always thrilled when I hear the song that plays because Chinese New Year should bring Joy to everyone and not bring sadness. I will never forget my parents being super happy as they were smiling at each other and me being confused because I couldn’t understand what was happening because I was too young. They would be satisfied and all I could hear on the streets were people clapping and cheering. When I first saw the lion dance I was very scared because I didn’t know what it was and I thought it was actually something that could harm me. When my parents first touched the lion I was getting more and more comfortable because they told me to touch it and it will give me good luck and it wouldn’t harm me. When I touched it it was very furry and when I tried to hold it up it was very heavy for me. Since I was very young and weak in strength so it felt like I was trying to hold up the world. When I was older I found out that it was actually around 20 pounds since I asked one of the material artists that were standing outside of the restaurant when they were performing the lion dance.
