There many notable scenes in the movie such as the opening scene where Tessa’s character Irene is walking through a white neighborhood pretending to pass as a white women and she ends up meeting with an old friend who is passing as a white women and has a racist husband. another is The scene is when Irene invites Clare to a dancing party , as everyone dances and enjoys Clare’s ambience Irene is seen conversing with Hugh wentworth. Hugh is told by Irene that things are not what they seem by this she means Clare is a colored women Hugh is shocked by this as he believed she was a white women. Hugh mentions that Irene is capable of doing something similar and further elaborates on ‘passing’ he says everyone is passing as something else. He states like Clare that Irene is also passing as someone else. I just thought this was an interesting statement and what does he mean by that does this mean Irene is pretending to be someone she is not or is it more of in a metaphorical sense.
