Crack in the Wall from Irene’s bed POV, seen at 1hr 11 minutes, 30 seconds in Passing
When Irene was still in bed, there was a huge crack in the wall and given the events that had just happened before and after this scene (with Clare saying how she was envious of Irene for pretty much being herself and how she thought that she had no morals and would do anything to get anything she wanted…), the crack in the wall with an imaginary Clare in that room stands as a metaphor to how their worlds were starting to crumble… There was an imminent split between Irene and Clare once again but this time, it’s permanent, with Irene (and Brian) tragically losing her “friend” (or lover) while Clare once again trying to escape her problems (whether its hanging with Irene to reconnect, shedding her old identity and cutting ties to gain status, or falling to her death to escape punishment from her husband.
