I think the fact that they gave more details on the backstory of the characters, especially Irene’s view of a young Clare sitting in her home sewing for a weekly one-dollar wage to help support her family. Her abusive household may have been a reason for Clare’s taste for danger. The text also gives us more of an idea of how Irene thinks. In the film, we could only make educated guesses as to why the characters think the way they do. Compared to the text, where we get more understanding of how the characters think though more specifically how Irene thinks.
