Hello everyone!
My name is Maria, and I am a student here, at Baruch College.
I was born in Russia, and moved to the United States when when I was in sixth grade. I see this as one of the most influential events in my life, since it taught me to become open minded and helped me see the cultural differences and various ways of life in two different countries. To this day, I feel like immigrating to the United States, helps me better communicate with people of different races, who come from non-Amercan backgrounds, since I know what it’s like to be new and lost in the country where everybody seems to somehow fit in.
While being in Baruch, I hope to major in accounting and eventually earn a CPA. I am also interested in pursuing a career in marketing, so a marketing minor may be a part of my near future. So far, I am really enjoying the first semester, and look forward to the upcoming years.

In the past, I have participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities, and hope to do the same in Baruch. Some of these activities included school newspaper, student government, United Network of Student Leaders, as well as several Honor Societies.
In my free time I like to cook, especially when it gets colder outside and my apartment doesn’t feel like an oven. I also enjoy staying active througout the year. I love running, and this summer I started competing in running races taking place in NYC. At some point I would like to run a marathon, but of course, that will require a lot of time and training.
Maria,
I came to the Untied States when I was in the third grade and I still believe that it was an opportunity like no other. Though I had my hiccups in the transition, they made me the mixed bag of marbles I am today. That’s what change does.
I admire your marathon aspirations and can tell from what you’ve shared that you are more than capable of succeeding at the track.
Maria, I totally agree with you about how my Russian heritage gets me connected to people in a new way.
I didn’t know you like to cook, what do you like to make? I like how healthy you are, it is very inspiring.
Best of luck becoming an accountant, you are on the right path!
