Overall Personal Reflection

This course has introduced me into the world of product development, and it is an exciting world to be in. Labelled as a humble 3D design class, this course branched out in ways I did not consider. This course exposed me to the harsh realities of current 3D printing capabilities. I am a bit disapointed. 3D printing is more difficult and more expensive than I had originally imagined. However, I am hopeful. I believe that now is a great time to get into the 3D printing world, much like the time Steve Jobs and Bill Gates had gotten into the world of computers. Now is where the exciting developments are occuring. I do plan on having a future wth 3D design. I recently purchased a new laptop, specifically with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA graphics card so that I may further explore various 3D design softwares including Blender, AutoCad, etc. I have developed a more entrepreneurial mindset. Next semester I will attend co-working in the Field Center. Now entrepreneurship is a career path I am open to and would like to explore. This class showed me that anyone can create whatever they want, thanks to the open source culture that the maker community has embraced and thrive under. I also learned that collaboration helps everyone. As an individual one can create good things. As a collective, those things can become great. I realized that the vast majority of products do not have a single inventor. It’s a romantic notion that one individual was able to come up with a brilliant idea. It does happen, but very rarely. Working collectively as a group always yields much better results. I have learned that I enjoy group and collaborative environments more than I had originaly thought. Going back to August, I would tell myself to take this class. I would only change my interactions with my classmates. I feel that I should have developed relationships with more than the few I have.
