For costumes, it will be very modern with just a twinge of subtle imagery and suggestion.

For Debbie:

I started her out in frumpy clothes, like this jacket and dress:

I wanted to convey how she hides herself from the world in very big clothing or muted colors.  However, when Craig and her start going out, he brings her out of her shell… but not in a good way.  She loses her sense of self and dresses how he wants her to:

This abomination is an example.  He even gives her bracelets that are like chains, to signify how she is his property.  And the ring he gives her to propose with, is very cheap.

I don’t even want to get started on how ugly the wedding dress is:

But in the end, when she tells him off, she feels lighter and more like herself.  Yet she is still changed, as seen in her final outfit as the maid of Honor at Michael’s wedding:

It’s a light color, and is very nice.  It’s a style SHE chose, and she feels happy in it.  And that is all that matters.

For Craig, even though he gives cheap gifts, he treats himself well enough, dressing in fancy suits (that he got at Men’s Warehouse)

Michael on the other hand wears clothes that hug his body, since he is all about showing off his sex appeal to both genders.  But he also works, so that is why I chose this for his outfit:

(The guy also looks how I envisioned he’d look in the opera, so bonus points for that!)

The suit for the wedding would look like this (Damon would have a matching one)

Damon’s is just a normal suit, professional and all that.  He’s a little less open about his body, unlike Michael, so he looks a bit more innocent but he still has an anger that is big if ticked off far enough.
