First Post – Entrepreneurship

I would like to start off my blog with a word about entrepreneurship. I truly believe that everyone in Baruch should engage entrepreneurship and start their own business. Regardless of success or failure, starting up your own business is extremely fulfilling. You learn so much that can be applied in your personal and professional life.

During the past summer, I started a small business technology consultancy called Visionari. You can learn more at visionariny.com. Definitely avoid viewing it with Internet Explorer. With an undergraduate degree in accounting, I had to battle an upward climb due to my incompetencies in coding and ignorance in business systems. It was one of the toughest challenges I faced in my life. I was going in blind. Although my venture did not become as successful as I wished it to be, it was definitely a whole new experience for me.

I learned an incredible amount about client relations, coding, business law, web design, graphic design, outsourcing, and system implementations. To date, I have a handful of clients who are non-tech savy small business and startup managers. I obtained these clients by going to local business owner to pitch my services. I still recall that time I was rejected by over 20 local businesses and I was ready to call it a day and go home. Lacking all motivation, I approached one more local business and he became a recurring client. I learned that the more you persevere, the luckier you get. I remember waking up at 4 a.m. on summer days without an alarm ecstatic to work on my business. Although my startup is still more of a hobby than a sustainable business, I will never regret the hundred of hours I poured into my creation.

However, I haven’t been as motivated recently to continue my business. I started my internship at Ernst & Young recently and the MIS program at Baurch. I’m currently taking 6 classes and work 40+ hours at Ernst & Young. If you asked me to take on this workload during my undergrad years, I would probably run to the hills. Yet, after starting my business, I feel empowered every day to work and improve every facet about myself.
