This video is background knowledge of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It explains the heritage of both countries. The Dominican Republic do not claim their black roots, they do not consider themselves black. When thinking of their mother country, they think of Spain. Even though Dominicans are not white by skin color, they refuse to call themselves black and made up a term for their skin color. There are statues of the founding father, Christopher Columbus, who they are proud to be associated with. In the video it goes to explain how in the Dominican Republic the statues of the people that they look up to are white while in Haiti they have statues of their black leaders. Haiti does not shy away from their African roots. Racism against the Haitians began when Dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina became president. In his attempt to whiten the Dominican race he ordered his army to kill all Haitians. The genocide is known as the Parsley Massacre, where people were told to say the word parsley in Spanish and if they did not roll the R they were considered Haitian and killed.

In this video, the issue of deportation of Haitians is being presented. Haitians are being deported to Haiti due to lack of citizenship. people believe that the Dominican government is being racist because they are not only deporting illegal Haitians, but also, they are deporting anyone from Haitian descent. Many Haitians claim that the Dominican police is picking up and deporting people based off of skin color. If someone is just a little too dark than they will not be asked to prove their citizenship, they would be picked up and transported to the border where they will return to Haiti.
In this video it shows the difference in how life is in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. A family is dived, where one part is one part is barely getting by in Haiti, while the other is struggling to make a living in the Dominican Republic. Through this video, one can see why Haitians are moving to the Dominican Republic. There is no economic growth in Haiti and the Dominican Republic has jobs to offer.
In the video above, it explains the struggle that Haitians/ Haitian-Dominicans face when trying to become a Dominican citizen. The people are struggling with paying for their lawyers, having all of the required documents and meeting the 45 day time line before they get the chance of being deported. There are even some people that leave voluntarily because they do not want to face police brutality, and would like to get their belongings before leaving. There are Dominicans that share their opinion on the deportation of Haitians. Based off of the video, there are Dominicans that believe that the deportation is a good idea. That the Dominican Republic is not a wealthy nation and that the jobs for Dominicans are scarce. The Dominican Republic has done all that they can to help Haiti after the earthquake, but the Dominican Republic have to help themselves first.
