The New York Times article by Azam Ahmed elaborates on the relationship between Dominicans and Haitians. After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Haitians took refuge in an abandoned resort where in recent months have been scared of staying due to the law of deporting all undocumented people and then having a Dominican lawyer make them pay for rent. This article goes to explain the fear that Haitians have towards Dominicans and being deported. As well as the way some Dominicans treat the Haitians.

In Arms and Politics in the Dominican Republic, it discusses the history of the Dominican politics. It mentions the power of Trujillo before, during and after his dictatorship. Through this, one can see what it was that the Dominican Republic was founded. As history progressed, we can see what changed or remain the same such as the discrimination/racism toward Haitians.

This gives background information to the manslaughter against Haitians and what led to such horrible actions. This genocide is another factor as to why Haitians feel so discriminated against and unsafe when they are in the Dominican Republic.

The New York Times article by Sandra E. Garcia discusses the impact of not having a form of identification for the children with Haitian roots. Children are being pulled out of school and people are being deported to Haiti for not having proof of citizenship. People that are being deported see it as the government of the Dominican Republic is trying to get rid of Haitians from the Dominican Republic.

John J. McLaughlin discusses the history of racism and discrimination against the Haitians in the Dominican Republic going back to the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. He writes of the events that has occurred in making the tension between Dominicans and Haitian greater. Haitians are being deported even when they have evidence to prove their citizenship.
