English Reflection

May 22 2017

Reflecting back on my first piece of writing that I have turned in was the Critical Analysis essay. In this essay I learned how to analyze certain parts of writing and see what the author actually meant to say without writing it by deeply analyzing what he/she wrote in the text. A skill that I learned also while doing this piece was to introduce the quote before actually adding to my essay. This greatly helped the flow of this and any future essay I will be writing with this tactic. Also after adding the quote I deeply analyzed it and explained why the author wrote it that way and why he picked the scented structure he did.

My second project was the Research-Based Argument essay, This essay was by hard the hardest for me to complete. Not only was it long as I find it hard for me to write in great length about a certain topic but, I also found it hard to get what was being asked. Not that it was the professors fault because Professor Martin always explained everything very well. I just didn’t perceive the assignment correctly. One major skill that I took from my past project was the tactic of introducing the quote. I find this to be one of the most useful tactics in my writing and I’m so glad I had learned it. While doing this project I learned how to use multiple sources to convey  one major argument in my case it was the fact that Targeted advertisements were an invasion of our privacy. For a future project of this type I will want to be in more contact with the professor to make sure I am doing everything correctly as I did poorly on this assignment.

The last Project was the Remix project this was by far the most entraining project to create for me. My project was a Remix of the essay I turned in for the 2nd essay. I turned the argument of my essay into a short video. The main point of it was to allow the watchers of this video to receive the shock factor that was missing from the essay. In my opinion I found that reading something is far less convincing then visually seeing something in action. I used clips of people being spied on to deliver the message that data collection is the same thing as being spied on. With the claps I added some facts and explain what targeted ads are. While doing this project I was able to learn a new program (Imovie) which i never used before. I had a lot of fun searching for clips that went well for what I wanted to do. Also I liked the fact that I was able to add dramatic music over the video to further add mood to it.

My views didn’t drastically changed from the begging of the class till now. I always never liked writing and don’t think I ever will. I was never the person to sit-down and write as a personal hobby of mine mostly because I cant actually sit still and do it. If I am not up and doing something with my body I get anxiety from it. Some people relive stress by writing, but me I actually get anxiety from it especially when I get stuck and don’t know what to write about. I feel like I didn’t meet the goal I wanted to meet that I thought of in the beginning of the class and I think the reason for that is that writing is not one of my greatest skills, and I know that shouldn’t stop me from achieving a great grade in the class but I guess it did. But I did meet one my goals which was to learn some new writing tactics and I learned I can remix an essay in to a video to portray my argument even further.
